My wife and I used to go the great race every year, staying at the
Maison Blanche camp-site, until our sons went away to prep school.
Every year their Sports Day coincided with Les Vingt Quatre Heures
and so for the last eight years we've been unable to go!!

BUT THIS YEAR WE GO AGAIN!!!!! (altho' the boys are coming with us
...:-(....no unbridled lust in (and occassionally out of) the tent
....but at least we can go to all our old restaurants...(the Vietnamese
just outside Mulsanne; Hotel du Bon Laboreur, etc)...).

Called into the circuit last August and booked the tickets...joined
Club 24...drove the circuit...BRILLIANT..it all came flooding back!!

Thanx for setting up this site.

Regards

Simon

14/03/98

Good Evening Dave,

I'm a Californian who's been to Le Mans a couple of times. The first was in '80
to see Rondeau win in a car of his own construction. Quite a story. One of those
Rondeaus are in a shop near my home in Corona del Mar, (65 Klm south of L.A.) Then
two years later I was back with a girlfriend....It was a party to be sure with
credentials really adding to the overall event!

I am preparing another trip to France this Summer. I have relatives in Monparnase,
(District 6, Paris). I am planning to include the trek to LeMans as well. So I was
just looking for Info etc. and found your site.

Nice Job. Good to see someone's got it handled so well.

I also compete at an amateur level here. . . 125 Enduro gearbox karts and various
SCCA classes. (F2000).

Thanks for letting me look around. maybe we'll see you there...

Sincerely,

Richard D. Holub

Greatest race in the world. Drove down last year on my Kawasaki ZX6R,
and had an absolute blast. Will be making the pilgrimage again this
year as ever, only this time on four wheels. One of the lads has just
bought a Westfield which should be fun. Hope to see Dave and all the
other nutters again soon.
I have a great .avi file of a GT2 porsche which i shot on my camcorder
and will try and post it somewhere that everyone can find it.
Can't wait till June!

to confirm until it was too late;
I am intending to go, but in the past my friends made the arrangements, so
I am starting from scratch to get this show on the road, so to speak.
Any assistance anyone wishes to give me as to where to go to get tickets,
rental cars etc would be appreciated. Thanks

Alistair Clark is absolutely right - the ACO is killing Le Mans.

It is becoming more and more difficult to get any sort of a view of the
racing, either because of official grandstands or barbed wire by local
properties etc.

In another couple of years time there will be no point in going as you will
not see anything and it will be (almost) as bad as Formula Yawn 1.

Next year I'm going to watch the bikes - I suspect the racing will be sharper
and access easier!!

Hey Ho.

Jack Hanson (nztrljxh@ibmmail.com) on Mon Apr 20 03:07:26 BST 1998

I have not been to Le Mans since 1989 so I am unsure if this is still current.

Besides the "A" and "B" series tickets (Public and ACO members) there is also a
"C" series. These were priced between the "A" and "B" series and available to
members of other motoring organisations, e.g. RAC or AA.

To get these you had to go to the main office which was not always easy to find.
Some years it was at the ACO office at the back of the main grandstand (You had
to convince the gate officials to let you in to buy a ticket to get in!), in later
years there was a temporary (porta-cabin like) office over the road from the main
entrance.

If these tickets are still available it is worth the effort if you want to save a
few francs, but is easiest if you are there before Saturday.

This will be my 4th year at Le'Mans. I used to camp next to the track on
the mulsan straight but this year I will be staying at a house with two
French friends who I met two years ago. They work for a French Auto Car
magazine. They also have access to a hospitality suite above the pit lane.
What a bonus!! The 1st year I went, my business partner drove a 1951 AEC
opentop bus. The 2nd year I went to Le'Mans we were treated to a helicopter
ride by our French friends whilst the race was in progress. This year we
hope to do the same again and also we hope to visit the pit lane whilst the
race is in progress. I hope my two French friends keep their jobs!!

I'm agree with some points of the argue of Alistair Clark. Sure, the facilities
must be improve in the campings. For the price that fans pay it's a shame to find
so few toilets.

Moreover I think that the prices should be less important for families .The minimum
price for two children and a couple ( without camping, parking and tribune) is 1280F,
nearly £130. But don't forget that for a Grand Prix which last only two hours and
where you can't move of your seat you would pay twice this price!

Concerning the view, it's true that with this f... fence the race is not the same.
Was it necessary to avoid the invasion of the circuit before the end? I don't know
but I was personnaly one of the man whose mission was to keep the circuit clear of
people at the last moment of the race ( I was positionate front of the finish line)
and i can tell you that some people were very nervious in my back! And this fence
will preserve us of another possible 1955, a terrible year where a lot of people
were killed because of a car crashed in the public.

The big problem with this fence is to take pictures. Good pictures can be take in
le tertre rouge or at the top of the grandstands. There is also a platform at the
top of the welcome where the landscape is quiet good.

I wish an happy 24 heures to all of you.

Due to one of our party having family problems we have a spare ticket now fully paid for. Any offers?
The ticket allows general entry and also a grandstand seat in Mobil 1 (H) directly opposite the pits.

Any queries please E-mail or ring on 01494 564588

Spent the weekend at Le Mans for the pre-qualifying. Rather cold and
wet on Friday and Saturday, but the sun finally managed to break through
late on Sunday.
Due to my lack of French and the fact that for a lot of the time I was
out around the circuit, it was not until I got home late Monday night and
checked your web page that I knew who had qualified. Well done for the
speedy posting.

Your 'avi page' mentions a Porsche using the airstrip for a private practice.
What I arrived at the circuit on Saturday morning there was a BMW doing the same.

By the way, there was a road going car in the paddock area, just inside the main
entrance on the left. Judging by the 'RJ' badge on the bonnet it was a Helem.
Is this correct? What is the connection between Helem and the Renault spyder?

Thanks,

Chris.

Is there any news on the prequalifying fuel scandal?
I heard that the the Zakspeed, Konrad, and Roock teams were
all given fuel contaminated with water which blew their engines.
As a result five of their cars failed to qualify, including last
year's leading British drivers.

Just wanted to thank you for putting my story up on your site.

many great memories. I hope that your viewers will gain some
insight as to how perplex this international circuit can be.

We have created a link to Club-Arnage on the story page, in a

Isn't it incredible that last year's GT1-pole sitter couldn't even pre-qualify
this year? OK, motorsport is ever developing, and all that, but anyway! I
mean Jean-Pierre Jarier is not a slow driver.
3:36 in Pre-Q by the new Porsche! It's practically as fast as back

This is my first time going to Le Mans. Over many years, I have said,
next year, I'll go. So this time, we said, what's stopping us, lets go.
So, with the help and aid from the Sporting Bears motor club, who go every
year, my friend and myself will be there. Unfortunatly the '65 Mustang 2+2
V8 is still awaiting Holley gaskets, so I'll have to go in the Renault,
taking it home I suppose. Anyroad up, thanks for a very informative site,
I have printed out most of it for further reading. Some pictures of the
other cars lower down maybe, and some more vid and audio clips from radio
Le Mans would be nice.

So, look forward to driving down in 2 weeks time. Comming down from the
English Lake District.

Cheers
Martin.

When I was around seven, my family moved to France in Monce-en-Belin, about
five minutes from Virage d'Arnage. My dad took me to see the 1988 24 heures
du Mans (go Jan Lammers go!). But I really did not know what it all means
until I had to part with it. In 1991, right after Mazda won we moved back to
the United States. In 1996, after missing 4 24 hours, I finally was reunited
with the Sarthe circuit and the rest of my family and friends..blah blah blah.
I was really there to see some Porsches beat some butt. 1997 was the same
thing, I got to see the best endurance race in the world for the sixth time.
At 15 years of age, I consider myself a sort of veteran (if you will) of the
track, the cars, the winners etc... I must say that who ever has been writing
these reports on the best spots to see the race is my best buddy. Here in the
U.S. (especially in the south where Nascar rules) I haven't found a soul who
knows what I'm talking about when I say Ray Bellm, or Mclaren F1 for that
matter. I feel so alone here and when you talk about the Mulsanne Corner with
the brake pads glowing at 4 in the morning. The site you have is great. I
have been looking for since well for a long time. All they need to come up
with is a computer game or Sony Playstation CD game about the 24 hours. Boy
that would be great. This year, I return with my father who has not gone
since 1991 so he has a lot to learn from me.
Keep up the great work on this web site. I visit it daily for news and
pictures.

Thank you

Rainier
