Title: Wishy
Post by: pretzel on June 07, 2010, 02:21:25 pm
Just a note to all who know my good friend Wishy. He was involved in a fairly serious RTA last Friday and is currently being kept VERY sedated on an intensive care ward. Only brief details on his condition at the mo following a conversation with his wife but some internal stuff that doesn't sound good, but he is in the right place.

He was giving Le Mans a miss this year but I'm sure that you will join me in thinking of him at this difficult time.

I will update as soon as there is any further news.

Pete B.

Currently I believe he is in Kings College Hospital, although hopefully he makes a reasonable recovery so he can be transferred to somewhere nearer his home in Hampshire.

A brief update:

Neil (Nopanic) visited Andy this afternoon and managed to have a (slightly incoherent) chat with him. No update on injuries, however Andy mentioned the possibility of him being transferred to a more local hospital towards the end of this week so the prognosis must be positive.

Much better than the Surrey police version that described his injuries on Friday as 'life threatening' see here:
http://www.themissinglist.co.uk/police-appeal/witnesses-sought-to-three-vehicle-collision-adjacent-a3-slip-road-thursley

I'm sure Neil will update further when he gets back home.

I will print out your messages and send them to him with a card.

Just got back from London, (beer in hand now)

Update,
Andy is in; (Andy Coot)
Surgical Intensive Care Unit
King's College Hospital
Denmark Hill
London
SE5 9RS

They seem to be looking after him well, no broken bones (had a load of x-rays today). Watching him for internal injuries, as he had problems with blood in one of his lungs after the accident. Hard to get answer from any of ther nurses as they seem to be working full time on that ward with everyone else as well.

Andy, is awake and can talk, not total coherant (seems like Friday night at Le Mans), down to the amount of drugs he's on. He is conected to a big monitor screen that has all his vital signs, plus it has a big red light that beeps and flashes. So the nurse can shout at him to put his oxygen mask on again. Which they do.

They seem quite happy with him at present, and no major plans for any operations, at present.

Not sure when he will get moved, but I know he his in the best place and the staff seem to be on top it all.

Glad I saw him, put peoples mind at rest, all i know is he will get board there as their is nothing for him to do (bed rest as well).

So alll in all, he seems, at present to be doing well, not out of the woods, but holding well, he is going to really brusied internally and that will  hurt when he is off the drugs.

Any other news Mandy (his wife will let us know) and when and if they move him closer to home (nr Guildford)

Told him we will all raise a glass or 2 for him in Le Mans.

By the way - anybody want to buy a convertible Citroen Berlingo, nice conversion by local fire brigade.  ::)

Just a quick update for those still in the UK or that may have access to CA in La Sarthe:

Spoke to Andy's wife this evening - he is very much more himself today. The lung drain and saline drips have been removed as no longer considered necessary. They are keeping him in the High Dependency Unit for a few more days just to be sure but sounds very promising.

As promised I printed off all the goodwill messages on this thread and included them with a get well card sent today.

We will probably visit him next week on Tuesday as a bit of a detour on our way back home from Le Mans.

Spoke to Wishy this evening at some length.
God he's a tough Bugger
You'd never know what he's been through
A3 closed for 4 hours after accident
He was transported to hospital by air ambulance
Reckon he had a pretty close scrape, good thing that he's a regular God Squad!! Someone must have been keeping an eye out for him.
The 'driver' of the lorry has been charged with a number of road traffic offences.
Going to call him again tomorrow, he can take calls on his mobile after 9.30 am.
Thanks Pretzel and No Panic, you are good friends to Andy and a shining example to the rest of us.

Hi all,

Here are some pictures of my Berlingo which was trashed by a "maniac"driving a Ford Transit portaloo truck. The flatbed had a 3/4 full bowser on the back when he decided to rear end the back nearside 1/4 of my Berlingo. At the time I was doing 40 - 45 mph when he came steaming off the slip road at Thursley on the A3 into the roadworks just before the  tunnel at about 70mph.

Title: Re: Wishy

Ouch, but look on the bright side, with the compensation you get, you can do LM in luxury in 2011 8)

Title: Re: Wishy
Post by: Lawnmower Man on June 15, 2010, 09:20:46 pm
What a mess.   I assume you don't remember it.  But some how 70 doesn't sound fast enough to do that much damage. Assuming you were only doing 40 then it would be a 30mph impact and that looks to me like more than 30mph too my untrained eye.

Take it easy Wishy.

t.

Title: Re: Wishy
Post by: wishy on June 15, 2010, 09:27:44 pm
Tom,

Don't forget the bowser was 3/4 full ...so the extra momentum when he hit the brakes he couldn't slow it quick enough and he spun me through 360 degrees as well

I was concious through the whole ordeal from start to the medics stabilising me, being cut out of the car even in ICU at the hospital, when they put the drain in to empty my right lung which had 1.2 litres of blood in it.

Barry as far as compensation goes ....that is upto me to decide wether I go for the quickie settlement or leave it open in case there are future comlications due to all the internal organ damage I incurred

Boy - off for a week in France, one post on the forum to say i'm back, straight into the maelstrom of work, and missed this - sorry! Really glad to hear that it has turned out how it has given all the circumstances.  Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery, but don't be too quick to make a settlement with something like this until you have recovered and get a solid medical opinion about the possibility of any longer term effects!

Nobby,

Yes it was a Poo truck that hit me ......and even without being covered in the provebial,he still mamaged to get me into deep poo!

As far as my recovery is going.I still have internal bruising which is giving me a large amount if jip,but as each day goes on it is getting easier.Am still not sleeping well but thats life.

One bit of good news yesterday was that the insurance company have now confirmed the |Berlingo is a write off...."really!!!" and that the offer they have made means at the moment I am £400 up on what I paid for it 2 years ago...result.

So I have started browsing for a replacement now.

Hugh,

The said item in the back was a gas cooker which was on the other side of the car when the accident happened. So I was saved from being crushed by it.
The fire service just chucked it into the back once they had extracted me from the back of the car on one of those spinal board thingys prior to me being loaded onto the air ambulance.

The annoying thing was I had picked it up for one of my customers and was giving it to another customer who was on hard times and I could not repair their old one.

Hi All,

I would just like to tae the time to saya "BIG"  thankyou for the get wee card you all signed at Le Mans and also thankyou for the DFH t-shirt.

I am now well on the mend an am hoping to return to light duties on the 5th of July subject me feeling confidant to do so,as I am almost pain free now!!

The other driver is due to be charged officially within the next 2 weeks for driving with undue care and attention, and the long process of damages has now started and ......next week shopping for a replacement Berlingo, as the cheque is about to arrive in the next couple of  days.

So here's to seeing some of you at Silverstone in September.

Hi Barry,

I'd love to do the classic....but.....being self employed...bit short of cash at the mo,and it could be months before I get any advanced compensation for loss of earnings. So Silverstone will be the only thing this year

Just an update as to how i'm doing........back to work this coming Monday with Santa's little Helper(eldest son) todo any heavy lifting, as I still am not able or capable of lifting anything apart from a cup of tea!!!

Today I had a call from the Police, to which they now have enough evidence to charge the other driver with dangerous driving instead od undue care and attention....what a good result.

Apart from that i'm pleased to be going back to work, although I have been pushed into a corner, as being self employed ...no work no money...ce le vie!!!

Andy

Great to hear the good news , but I know  what it's like being self employed and having not worked since December.
I'm fighting  for my pension at the moment, which is another uphill battle !!

Don't even think about giving in to your natural desire to do something if Santa's Little Helper can't manage - you know it will make sense in the long run.

Good luck and TAKE IT EASY!

Hi Andy
Wishing you well on a tough desision on the need to earn, I was there a while back as a contractor, not easy but I hope all works well in your new supervisor role, as Andy says dont give in to temptation and undo the healing.
Ensure the lifting is balanced, tea in one hand, sarny in the other.
Best wishes buddy
