Title: Greetings from Le Mans
Post by: lynxd67 on March 07, 2007, 07:38:54 pm
Yes, I live here. I run several cars of an older nature and am pleased to give assistance whether it be with plod, directions, things to do, hotels, B&B, camping sites (two english ones here not far from the circuit), entertainment, places to see or whatever.

Hi Lynx, glad you made it over here.

You must be a near (ish) neighbour of Termietermite who also inhabits your part of the world.

Enjoy the site, the natives are mainly friendly  ;D

Welcome, Lynx.  Another sensible person who knows there is only one place on earth to live - La Sarthe.  Only, don't mention this to Mr Z or you will set him off.....

Hi, good to have another local to give advice.

What cars do you have

Apologies for not replying earlier Nordic. I have always been a Jaguar nut and on the basis I'll never afford a real one I have two Lynx D types - short and long nose - plus a flat floor E type I bought over years back. We've been round Europe more than a few times together!

Thank God for that! I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me.
I'd love to have a look at the D reps, - post a pic or two if you get the time.
I remember working near St Leonards on Sea (not as nice as Newbiggin, mind) many years ago, and could always find an excuse to wander into the Lynx factory there and watch the lads doing their stuff. As you'd expect, there was never many cars in there, but the ones that were were pretty hot stuff. There's something about rolling aluminium that makes me go all sort of funny...

Earlier this year I was working in Aldershot near to Racing Green (Aldershot's not as nice as Newbiggin either and co-incidentally H, a pal of mine went down to St Leonards on sunday in his Jag XJR to lick a school teacher). Anyway, they know a few things about C Types at racing Green I can tell you. There was a nice one, 3.4 bored out to 3.8 and fitted with 48DCOEs. Quite nippy by all accounts...

What I'm trying to say is I too would be interested in seeing some more pics of the Lynx D's.

I Have never been to Aldershot or St. Leonards on the sea, but surely the damp patch behind the gents lav in my local is better than Newbiggin.
I might get done in for that comment thinking about it. Swiftly back to topic please, i'm off to hide!

It sounds like Newbiggin has really gone to the dogs, mind you it's a long time since I've been that way (and the hygeine standards in Sconefingers local seem unusually high for that part of the world).
Northumberland, best kept secret? you bet! Shhh...

Gordon Bennett!!!
Pensha Monument, High Force, Durham lanes, Bamborough Castle... - that's a great link Stu, it's a little early for a large one, (only just, though) but it didn't 'arf bring a tear to my eye.
I've got a feeling I know which way the conversation is going to turn tonight.
My partner in the saddle next month, Brian,  an old school chum (who has a long history of dangerous and unstable behaviour, as well as a healthy disregard for personal safety), still lives up your way, just south of Berwick. He says his training is going well, and I couldn't think of a better place to get some miles in. He reckons the weathers been fantastic lately, which I take to mean 'the thermometer has just crept above freezing and visibility is more than ten feet'. (Mind you, when he says his training's going well, he probably means he's chased a few sheep, throttled a badger and been locked in the pub for 36 hours. And who am I to say that that's not Good Work?)
Have a great weekend up there Stu!
H

The weather has indeed been fine of late, just 1 overnight shower in over 4 weeks. The Alfas carpets haven't been this dry since leaving Milano 35 years ago!
Ah good old climate change.

For those who have asked to see photos of the cars perhaps it's a bit impolite but I started a thread here:-
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=387049

They too asked me to post photos of the cars and their usage. You'll find the story there. Anyone wanting to pop in for a beer will be welcome since I live 5 mins from Mulsanne bend and will be at St. Saturnin on Friday all day should you wish to chat. I should have the green short nose parked up inside on the right and be on the gate helping with the parking up for the parade.

Wotcher Lynxyboy,
Tremendous, it's long overdue having another Jag fan on the forum. Or rather Old Jag fan, er, I don't mean you're old or anything but you know what I mean, I've tried the young ones and they're always a disappointment. Blimey, I'm getting myself into a right hole here.
Moving on....
My Mark 2 has always made the journey with me, but you'll see from http://www.clubarnage.com/forum/index.php?topic=6682.0 that it's not making it this year, and to be honest, it's not exactly a foregone conclusion that I'll be making it, but I'll be giving it a good old shot.
The car has been a good'un for a long time now, but I must admit to taking a long look at a D rep a couple of years ago, and I still half wish I'd gone for it. The next one that crops up may well get me going again. There's some great pix you've posted there, it's good to see these cars used in the winter, - you know you've been on a journey alright, with almost useless heaters, wipers, weatherseals and an opportunity to wear a sheepskin coat and goretex lingerie.
It's shame you didn't log in a couple of months ago, one of our contributors, MGmark, has organised track days at RAF Marham for us (and anyone else) that have been a great success, and I've stuck a pic below of the Mk 2 there.
Now, (this will only make sense if you've read the above link) I'm looking for somewhere secure to store my bike once I get to LM, but for legs and mileage reasons it needs to be close to the track, how far are you from MB and could you fit a bike in your garage?
H

Wotcher BigH, nice to have another old codger along! However I am sorry but I didn't quite understand part of your post. I got the rubber lingerie bit but what on earth are wipers, heater and weatherseals please? ???

You just have hairy-chested noise and the wind in your hair.  He has them, but they don't work very well.   And he misses having ones that work properly when out and about in his comfort barge I think.......mind you, I must allow that he did give the old girl a good outing at Marham.

And you could mention too that it's a kinda road-going John Coombs replica (the Jag that is, not BigH) Gosh it sounds nice flat out for a mile and a half down the Marham runway, though it's a bit disconcerting to watch the temp guage visibly rise! I'm not sure how H gets it to go round corners quite so fast on those skinny Avons though. He was working very hard at the wheel on the big L/H looper onto the runway as we sat on the arse of the 5litre Ultima.  ;D I think there's a video clip of it somewhere.
