The picture of Brian was taken at TURN 10 Sebring . So yes that is Andy Zarse in the Aston Martin hat. Sadly Norm is no longer with us either. As usual I would have met him and had no idea what an icon of the sport of Endurance Car racing he was. note to self: Must try harder. Phil

Started planning for next year ... could be busy . Le Mans All European WEC races + Austin and Bahrain ELMS full season (except Monza, but really looking forward to Portimao) Might have to choose between Sebring and WEC/ELMS prologue at Monza, could be a tough one. What a hard life Sometimes ... It's great to be at all those races right in the middle of the action, but at the end of the day everything has to be paid for (flights, hotels, cars, gear ...). And so far, all of this isn't generating any income. Budget planning is key to get everywhere but more & more difficult each year. Hi Dottore, If I looked at a BUDGET I would not have been anywhere Phil

I remember the days when we allowed more space for the swimming pool and the fireplace Those were the days we thought they would never end. Well actually we knew it could not last but it was fun for the couple of years especially as they were warm years as I recall. Phil

Hi Lorry, I agree they did manage to get 50+ years out of the design concept for the 911 and just like Corvette have finally caved to the engine in the middle idea although they appear to have beaten them onto the track. I for one think it is time to close the book of the awesomely successful "911" and call this one something else.

Hi Nick, Car & Camping are your best option. Get there early on Thursday as you have to set up camp and sort yourself out as night practice must not be missed. If you can not find a friend to go with you, never mind you'll have lots once you get there. There are so many good viewing spots and we all have our favourites. I like to watch night practice from Tetre Rouge which is about a 40 minute walk from Maison Blanche. Phil

Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Audi to leave sportscar racing?

Hi Lorry. a quick search reveals for the USA: Under a proposed $15 billion settlement filed today, VW will buy back or fix about 475,000 of the diesel-powered cars it programmed to cheat on emissions tests and sold in the US between 2009 and 2015 This deal covers these 2.0-liter models:
VW Beetle (2013 – 2015) VW Golf (2010 – 2015) VW Jetta (2009 – 2015) VW Passat (2012 – 2015) Audi A3 (2010 – 2013; 2015)
So there is an Audi but I have never seen one. Typical sales in Canada are 10% of the US and we may not get the Audi in diesel. The Golf and Jetta ( your BORA) are the popular models for diesel.

I thought Audi had been pushing diesels, as a sideline of the ALMS program etc, perhaps unsuccessfully.
$15 billion for a few Golf DTIs is really expensive
I'll see what my friend at Hummer has to say (don't they have a diesel option? or was it gas turbine??)
Hi lorry, Hummer is hardly a mainstream car and while they may be available with a diesel most are gas (petrol) on the road. I expect the military ones would be diesel. Any of the larger (1 ton) pick ups are diesel but they are working trucks. the average urban cowboy style Ford 150 is a v8 gas. Phil

This announcement/confirmation seems to coincide with VW's US compensation claims being fixed at $15billion. Presumably about half of that is Audi, as I think they were pushing diesel more than VW. Then there's the rest of the world (that prefer diesel), so that's a hell of a big bill. It even makes Audi's racing budget look like small change.
Lorry, Diesel is not a popular option in North America for passenger cars. Volkswagen Golf were by far the most popular in the niche market and an even smaller portion of Mercedes Benz diesels. I do not believe I have ever seen an Audi with diesel option. Domestic brands do not offer diesel. The judges in the case against VW stated they wanted the highest $$ fine that would hurt BUT not jeopardise VW survival. Phil

Scrutineering? Not overly exciting but it'd be a fairly large omission...
Great for meeting people you know and people watching. Hanging out in the sun and working up a thirst while seeing some cars up close and driver autographs / pictures if that interests you. Phil
