Title: CA Sponsorship
Post by: Gilles on April 01, 2004, 10:35:55 am
I had a dinner with Henri Pescarolo two days ago  8)

He's quite confident about his ability to compete against private Audi but he has some budget lackings.

I would like to suggest to all of you a CA subscription to help him.

Not sure if we could come up with the sort of money he would be looking for!  How much is he asking for and what would we get in return??

Did you get a shot of him in a CA t-shirt Gilles?

Something along the lines of what we were intending for Morgan possibly.

I thought patroitism might be a concern, but doesn't deter the Twats from supporting Racing for Holland.

Gilles, any further info on what we could offer?

My thoughts too Steve, but if we get a group of pit passes, photo opportunities, name on car etc etc which is far more than we'd get with the Moggie then it could be interesting.

I fear it may be a tad on the expensive side though!!

Maybe Felix could donate some of his takings from the fish and chip wagon  ;)

Just to add a pint on Money

225 T Shirts were sold, and had i charged £10 each , CA kitty would have £225 pounds for sponsoring

If i was able to Bulk buy the mugs i would get them for just under £4 , and charge £5 , making £1 per mug.

I would reckon that with a little thought into it, the goods that have been sold could raise £400, which is a good start to any sponsorship fund, Moggie or PUG .

Hey, I'll have you know that my profit margin is very modest.

Anything above that I put in the RNLI charity box that's chained to the counter in my van.

So what other products have you got planned Robbo??

I'm looking into embroidered polo shirts. caps and sweatshirts through a contact of mine.

I'm also looking at "Stubby Holders" or Can Coolers. Only problem is, to get them below £5 each I need to get at least 200 of them.  Could always add a pound per item for sponsorship????

...Moggie or PUG.

In the danger to seem pedantic, the Pesca cars are Judd powered. What about some raffle where the winner draws a taxi lap in one of the Pesca cars or the Moggie ? With that outlook the wallet slips much easier out of the pocket, don't you think ?

Whilst having dinner with the missus last night, I thought I'd probably have a pretty fine time if I f**ked-off to Vegas for a week or so. There are some great shows, all-night gambling and more tit bars than you could shake a stick at. Liquor is a bit expensive and a business class flight is a little more than I'd usually pay - but then I thought, "Club Arnage sponsorship!" Of course - they're a generous bunch and extremely charitable too. I figure I have as deserving a cause as Pesca or Charles Morgan - in fact more deserving. Because, unlike Henri Pescarolo and Charles Morgan, I'm not a millionaire.
So, come on fellas - I only need about 2000 bucks to have a right proper good time. I know it would give you all a nice warm glow to know that you are stumping up your hard-earned cash, so that I can indulge myself at no cost to me. I'll even wear my CA T-shirt in recognition of your generousity.
When can I expect the dosh?

It's a splendid idea Matt, and just the sort of venture that deserves to be sponsored. Please check your e-mail, you will find that I have sent you details of all the credit and charge cards I own. I'll also scan in a copy of my signature along with the capillary patterns on my retina and send them too. All I ask is that you carry out your chores in the CA sponsored pink panties. Not much to ask after all, in fact, I'm wearing mine right now.

I appreciate the gesture H. Two things immediately spring to mind. Firstly, I think it somewhat unfair that you alone should pony-up for my selfish indulgence. I'd rather hoped that the more self-sacrificing members of the forum (you know, the ones that keep banging on about how great it would be to muck-in and pay for someone else's entertainment) would also chuck in, a la Morgan/Racing for Holland/poverty-stricken, multi-helicopter owning Msr Pescarolo.
Secondly, I really would prefer cash, if it's not too much trouble, old bean.

As a footnote, I would be happy to exchange my tighty-whiteys for pink knickers, on the assumption that all the money will be with me by the weekend (I've got a special rate on a suite at the Bellagio).

Title: Re:CA Sponsorship

Now Matt, I was more than happy to entertain your idea, until I realised you were going to squander so much of it on the Bellagio (that water display may be OK the first time you see it but the same show every half hour??) Come On! For goodness sake!!  Stay at Circus Circus for $49.95 a night and then it gives far more money for wasting at Hooters.

And what's with all the Asians standing in the middle of The Strip passing out mailers for "Girls Girls Girls" I thought prostitution was illegal in Vegas but it's pretty much in your face isn't it. We had to keep on swerving along the pavement to avoid too many awkward questions form the kids.

I didn't seem to have that problem last time I was making my way down the Vegas Strip...... ???

....mind you, I was driving an RV at the time!

Matt, I've got a pile of Egyptian pounds clogging up a drawer somewhere, plus some old Mexican Pesos from 1985 before they knocked 3 noughts off.
Oh! and MILLIONS of Yen.

I'll leave them in a brown envelope behind the washroom door next time I'm in Miami.

Gilles,
While I applaud your well meaning thoughts regarding Henri and his equipe, I'm afraid I have to agree with Matt on this one.  Handing over your hard earned income so that someone else can go racing just isn't very sensible.  As much as I love racing I will also be the first to admit that the cold, hard reality of the sport is that it is full of some of the biggest slime-balls walking this planet, just waiting to empty the wallets of well meaning individuals.  Leave the donations to w**k*rs like David Letterman (a late night TV host here in the US) who have more money than common sense.  Letterman spends millions every year on Rahal Racing for the privilage of being able to stand around in the pits and say "I'm with the team".

Hadnt thought much more, although the quality of the stuff so is good.

Matt - I'll sponsor you, no honest i will. Sweet Fanny adams i will.

Steve, your generousity knows no bounds - and I am deeply moved. I'm not so bothered about the raghead and wetback currencies - the Yen, I will gratefully part from you. Simply furnish me with you bank account details, passwords etc and I'll take care of everything else.

Robbo, you're just a tease - I got all dewy-eyed when I read that you'd sponsor me - only to dash my hopes, a sentence later.

It seems that my Vegas trip will have to be cancelled. It just goes to show that the only people worthy of sponsorship are those who actually have the funds, but would just rather suckers like us footed the bill. Go figure that one out.

Gibb, I'm sorry to learn that things are grim on the employment front. What is your area of expertise? My parent company in UK is always on the hunt for talented people. Feel free to PM me or email me at mharper6@cfl.rr.com  Either way, I hope you get sorted soon. Redundancy is a bitch, but often opens more doors than it closes - I speak from experience.

Impressive! Looks like "Combat 18 On Tour" I can just imagine a battalion of camo-clad, tatooed skinheads waiting inside to pile out and trash the nearest pakki shop.

Seriously, it looks to be a really good way of getting a lot of gear to the circuit - I bow to you organisational and logistic skills. Won't you need a pair of those daft door mirror extensions - so you can see the armada of Caterhams trying to keep up with this big rig?

Saw a great sticker on the door mirror of a Mustang Cobra this morning...."Objects in mirror are losing"

Well if everyone had the attitude that there is no point sponsoring a racing team, then there would be no racing for us to watch!

However it is probably fair to say that there are some teams that are more deserving of sponsorship than others.

The real question if the posters on this forum waant to sponsor a team is how one determines which team, and what one gets in return.

My suspicion is that by sponsoring someone low down the grid one will get more goodies for less bucks.

Title: Re:CA Sponsorship
Post by: Fax on April 19, 2004, 02:20:23 pm
Leave the sponsorship to corporations who are using it as a tool to pimp their goods and get their name across the TV screens. Sorry, I don't have much interest in forking over my hard earned green-backs for a sticker and standing by the fence and shouting "I sponsored that car!" everytime it crawls by.

I think we'd still have plenty of racing to watch chrisgrrrnn3111. There's the hard nosed sponsorship which I'd say probably makes up 99% of the sponsors. These have been bought and placed there by marketing gurus, and it's an advert with a return, pure and simple.
The other 1% are from, I suppose, enthusiasts, who get nothing more than a warm feeling every time they see the car. Mind you, sudden loss of bowel control would produce similar returns (but ultimately win you less new friends).
I'm not sure why marketing executives are called 'gurus', but it's a pairing of words that springs automatically to mind. Personally, I steer well clear of the buggers, but do they really go around in sandals, burning incense and weaving daisies into each others hair? - I haven't seen any on the tube, or the 7:45 Basingstoke to Waterloo for that matter.
On a slightly different note (excepting the warm feeling in my pants) I've just got back from a spell in Glasgow and am in a terrible state. It's a city that lived up to my expectations. City of Culture I'll be blowed, I've never seen pools of vomit and half eaten kebabs at such a high density before.  I'm now terrified that I'll be asked to visit Liverpool...

Got it in one JP, but H is right Andy Z, was in Liverpool just before he went off to see the bat and ball game. Liverpool will be contaminated.
Back to the cricket some West Indian scored a record amount of runs in that game. Andy can tell his Grand Children all about being there for that.He He He. ;D

Paula, that West Indian is the great Brian Laura the greatest cricketer that we have had apart from the great Sir Gary Sobers. I was at the match lots of crazy English fans in strange hats and all very drunk but not very noisey. Did not meet with the famous Andy Zarse though shame as it would of been fun talking the record of Brian's through with him a few times.

Chris,
Perhaps I was bit harsh with my last reply regarding your comments on sponsorship.  I'm not the least bit against throwing a few bucks and some elbow grease the way of a buddy trying to keep a TVR or GSXR competing in the club ranks.  However a team entering the 24 Heures du Mans shouldn't be looking for a bunch of guys on chat forum kicking in a few quid to get their equipe to Le Sarthe.  If they are, they shouldn't be there in the first place.

The one advantage of chucking a few quid at at a team is at least one has a reason to support a team!

Anyway just realised that I have my own project that could do with sponsorship, and it does involve racing!

So anyone willing to chuck a few quid my way so I can build a hovercraft for racing please feel free!  Just in case you think this is all pie in the sky my Brothers in law race them, although I have yet to drive one!
