Title: Pre Qualifying
Post by: jpchenet on March 25, 2004, 11:14:29 am
Who else is going??

Steve Brown, Rick Cutler and myself will be driving down on Saturday and planning to camp there until Monday morning when we'll take a liesurely drive back to Calais.

For those of you that have been before, what's the routine?? I believe we can camp on MB for free?? We obviously need to collect our tickets while we are there to gain entry. Is there anything else we should be aware of??

Is there a planned get together??

The T.W.A.T.S. are taking two vehicles down, booked on channel tunnel Saturday morning 06:58, we should be down there for midday. The only camping is in P16 or sometimes called Vert, you have to get the ticket from the that fancy building opposite the main entrance. We normally collect our race weekend tickets at the same time so it's easy.
Saturday afternoon we spend in the bar behind the pits/paddock and watch the day go by, very relaxed, drivers everywhere and they will talk to you.
Saturday evening in the campsite is quiet until the T.W.A.T.S. kick off with gas canisters in a flaming oil drum, makes a bloody good explosion!!! Also so far we have never managed to return a gazeebo from PQ, as that usually gets trashed early on! We normally crash and burn between 5-6am only to be woken up by those noisy bloody cars starting practice.
We depart about 4pm for our return trip to Calais in time for a nice sleep before work the next day.
Come and see us, you won't miss us in our bright yellow shirts and our massive flag will be in attendence of course.

We certainly will Mr President!!

What do they charge for the camping ticket??

Post by: president on March 25, 2004, 12:25:22 pm
I think it's about 20-30 Euros from the Expo centre

I am taking a three day return Dover Calais in my Motorhome and it costs just £80!!!

That is part of the reason we are going in that it is soo cheap.

I havent much time off left and go on holiday 1 week later so, this is the cheapest option.

If i can confirm my attendance fancy meeting up.

Post by: rcutler on March 25, 2004, 03:33:38 pm
I think the best bet is to swap numbers as I have no idea where is best to meet up during pre-quals or what happens. I do not wnat to say 1pm and then the rain stops and all the cars go out again.

See your PM.

Any one else we are probably going to be on Parking Vert or P16 as per "THE TWATS" post earlier today.

Looks like we'll be giving PQ a miss this year and go to Spa in september

Title: Re:Pre Qualifying
Post by: rcutler on March 27, 2004, 01:14:59 pm
I am afraid a member of the caravan club which until the 30th of March enables me to pay the same price as a car on all P&O crossing for a motorhome. Powermite have you looked into P&O for either the fast caen crossing or going via Le Havre. both of these are cheaper as brittany charge way over teh odds.

I am going with JPChenet and Steve Brown to Pre-Quals and were discussing last night who would definatley be there. Your name was one of the definates.

Really hope to see you there.

Let me start a list of who is going

The T.W.A.T.S  (Not sure of all the names)
Rcutler
JPChenet
Steve Brown

Who else.

Title: Re:Pre Qualifying
Post by: powermite on March 27, 2004, 08:36:20 pm
Ive tried P&O to LeHarvre and the absolute cheapest they could offer was the £760 in my previous post.Ive even tried Robbo,as his mate works for P&O and even he cant get any discount!!
I suppose we could all pile into one car but really the reason for going to PQ is more for the  drive down in a couple of cars than the PQ itself.
cheers

PM why dont you try the Newhaven Dieppe route , that was mega cheap and only 4 hour crossing.

Title: Re:Pre Qualifying
Post by: Perdu on March 28, 2004, 10:19:58 pm
Powermite, I know this sounds stupid but have you tried the offers from the ferry companies in the back of papers like the Mail on Sunday? I noticed that they are offering ridiculous prices for what you might call "early season crossings" Just a thought and might help you out. The ferry companies prices on their web sites are absolute crap, this time last year I was able to get Portsmouth Le Havre for le Mans  for £232, one car two passengers, travelling Friday afternoon. This included "club class". the offers in the "Mail" were much less than this, sorry I don't have the paper handy, to do a check for you, but cannot hurt to try 'em.

 ;)

As with the 24Hs Moto just past and less than three weeks to go until PQ, should we organise a quick CA get together for those who are at LM during the PQ weekend ? Saturday, 16:00 at the pit no 1 seems to be a good place and time. Any other opinions or has this already been discussed and I missed it ?

1600 might be a bit close to when we arrive at the circuit. See your PM for my mobile number.

Steve Brown's Co-Driver

A pint glass sounds a bit "bona" though, er, is there a merchandiser in the house?

Small chance I might make it. Hoverspeed can get me there and back for £49. I'd leave on Thurs evening, back on Sun evening. Have a booking at the Ibis le Mans Centre but a bit pricey at €80 per night. Too cold to camp right now! I've asked Gilles if he can find me somewhere cheaper!

I'm waiting on a cheaper hotel from Gilles, and then permission to take Friday off work (but I don't want to use up more leave!!). Once that's sorted, it's back to see if the crossing is still available...

Chances are 60/40 at the moment

I'm now a definite. Travelling via Hoverspeed Thurs 6 pm, back at 8:30 pm Sun. Staying Fri/Sat at a hotel in town centre (Ibis?).

Anyone else going to be there during Fri/Sat?

Are we going to hang round the pit on Sat or is there a plan for a beer or three? I did the Oyster bar with kpy in November and that was fun...

Great news smokie, most of us seem to be arriving on Saturday afternoon (The TWATS, The Liverpool Boys, Me, Steve, Mark, Steve's Co-pilot, RS2's and more I believe.).

Looking forward to meeting up again.
Brian, Ian and Catob.

Mr & Mrs RS2 will certainly be there at 18.80 - its quite obvious really - the 80 minutes is the time difference between France and Liverpool - they just nicked an extra 10 minutes........

RS2babe's work censor the internet access at the moment and I just lurk in a dark corner and never post in order to retain my newbie/llama status.........

....but prepare for an interesting statement from Mrs RS2 in respect of further female accompanyment in June....................................

Can't see much on the website about what's on this weekend, so I suppose it's not much! Who cares anyway... :)

Preliminary practice sessions : they will be held on Sunday 25th April. The track (13,650 kms), will be open from 09h00 to 13h00 and from 14h00 to 18h00. Technical checks and scrutineering will take place on Friday 23rd April from 10h00 to 18h00 and Saturday 24th April from 09h00 to 15h00.

Gilles, where is the scrutineering? At the track or at the auction place?

All attendees - don't forget to pay the small fee which lets you get your car inside the track, it's well worth it as it saves you walking round from place to place.  I assume CA t shirts are de rigeur for Saturday evening?

I am happy to say meet at the site for 1300 anyone in hotels I am sure between all of us we can provide a few beers. Anyone who is going PM or email by TOMORROW. I will provide my mobile number should you wish to track Me, JPChenet, Steve Brown.

Lisa, would not post on here what I think you are intending, what with Paula the drooler, Jayne and Ginger snaps and not forgetting your good self plus the two single fashion models from Jersey, we at the Liverpool Boys base camp will have to start charging an entrance fee. The queue could be longer than the one at the fair ground! Plus the ensuite would never be free you know what you girls are like when you get into the bathroom. Another thing to take into account is that we will be living next door to Sav and Big H.
PS, will they have t shirts.Dave D, do not forget the camera.
Catch u later
Brian.

the T.W.A.T.S. are not organised yet, we don't even know what cars we are going in! we are catching the 06:58 tunnel tomorrow morning so we should be trackside between 12-1, just in time for some afternoon sun and beer. the T.W.A.T.S. flag should be on display making it easy to find us, plus we will have the usual midnight madness of setting our gazebo on fire followed by very large and very loud gas explosions!!!

see you there...
