Title: Traffic Jams
Post by: frenchr on May 02, 2003, 04:35:06 pm
No matter how early I leave or hard I try to avoid it, I always get stuck in traffic on the main road from the city down to the track on race day.  It is always a complete nightmare and each year try to navigate around Le Mans to get to the track from the south, rather than the route from the north from the city.

Anyone got any tips on how to easily navigate to get there from the south?  I always end up in the same place whichever route I take!

Sorry Mr Newbie, but if you need to travel to the race from town on race day you must surely be missing the point.  And the point is to be ready for the race both in mind and Kronenburg before 16.00 hrs kick off.

Camp on site and remove the traffic jams.............

Agreed - getting into the circuit on race day can be a bastard - but we've traditionally approached the circuit from the south (my folks live near Saumur)
Take RN138 north to Petit Quinte - turn right on D144 signposted Teloche.
At Teloche turn left on D140 signposted Mulsanne
The Gendarmerie now take over but will direct you through Mulsanne towards Raudin on D140
You drive right past Mulsanne corner on your left and 140 runs parallel to the Mulsanne Straight.
Follow green arrows for Garage Vert
You will then be funnelled into the infield access road that passes under the track at Tetre Rouge.
If you're in a car (not a motorhome or van) and you are early, you might get in vert (allegedly no camping - but they never stopped us) Otherwise you'll need a ticket to get on Houx or Annexe - but a little bribery money usually does the trick here too.
From Petit Quinte, it'll take you about 45 mins.

Matt,
'Funnelled infield', now there's a phrase to be reckoned with....
