Title: Freeview
Post by: mike(liverpool boys) on October 07, 2010, 10:44:15 pm
To cut a long story short,my room mate and I have got a tv and free view box off flea bay for a tenner for our room here at collingwood but we don't have access to an external ariel. Bought a cheap amplified indoor one from asda but no joy.

Does anyone have any suggestions on an alternative??? We're struggling to survive without topgear repeats on dave  ;D

They didn't have electricity in Collingwood when I lived the other side of the Hendon Way.

Assuming its the ring aerial, ignore the telescopic bits, they're for radio, and aim it down the Edgeware Road, towards Croydon, i.e with the ring at parallel to the North Circular.  Radio waves and brickword don't go together too well, so see if you can aim it through a window, or sit it on a window ledge.

Digital is a sod to set up, as it either works or it doesn't, and if it doesn't, theres not a lot you can do.  I take it that you got as far as scan, but it can't find anything

Everything seems to work ok,the box started a scan when we switched it on and it's listing all the channels just not getting a signal. The antena we got has a kind of plastic plate on top with the two antenas on the back. Would a ring antena be better??? Failing that we had thought about just bringing an outdoor antena indoors  ;D

The stations could just be in memory.  Poundshop aerials work well.  The plate/dish type aerials are used on caravans and are well known for being poor on digital.  Try the outdoor type.

Try first tuning the analogue side of things, then optimise aerial orientation/placement, then have a go at digital.

This is the arial I have. Battery operated and needs adjusted every day but it does the job for top gear repeats  ;D
