exactly Paddy, the bloke turns up with one post and wants us to part with our cash for something we've never ever heard of and at full price, bit of a cheek if you ask me.  Not even a preview to judge the quality, looks like a chancer to me.

No doubt Brian can give us the low down in a few days once he's had a look at his copy.

Crikey, what a cynical lot we are! Here's a guy drawing attention to something we might be interested in and all he gets is thinly veiled abuse. I mean he's hardly likely to financially rape us to become the next Speilberg off the back of it. Chris24 (quite rightly) sells his Goodwood FoS CD on CA every year on the basis it might be of interest to somebody and no one bats an eyebrow about that. So frankly I'm a little embarassed we've been less than welcoming this time. Sad

What do you expect the original poster to do? Maybe he could give the film away for free. I think we should take this as a genuine offer at face value and then engage in a proper critique of the film, but only once we've watched it. It might be good or it might be absolute crap, and if so we can pan it and it's creators on artistic content to our hearts content. But so far as I can see, any addition to the library of the subject we love should be initially welcomed.

I am with Mr Zarse on this one.   But I have noticed a recurring theme of not being terrifically welcoming to some newbies on this forum.

You may be right?  Personally, it would of been useful to see portions of the film, you know, like a trailer, so we can at least gauge the quality of the film.  Amazon, have already got it at a lower than advertised price.  So we're being asked to buy something which we know little of, how it may be  of more interest to us than the official DVD, which in the main most of will get.

So why do I need another film of Le Mans 2006, what are the benefits to me/us?

Fran, call me a cynic, if a newbie wants to cold sell on the forum, surely they can expect the rough and smooth, or is that unreasonable?

To be honest, I'm right fed up with all this over expectation of tolerance of others and changing our ways and falling over backwards to appease hurt feelings.

and yes I'm turning into a right grumpy old man, I've had enough of the bloody PC stupidity and its about time we stood up to it.

Right on Fran. It's just called manners to be friendly, polite and helpful to strangers and my great grandmother told me they maketh the man. Then again she was a Victorian and times change, although manners were invented years before so-called "political correctness".

I know it's easy to grow weary of some of the tossy spammers who crop up on here with monotonous regularity. However, this is clearly a genuine offer. To my mind Club Arnage should be open to everyone to give and take what pleases them. There's nothing in the Rules that says you have to be a regular poster before you can punt something on here.

There are members of all of our respective LM crews who post regularly on CA but most other members don't. I don't think we should stop them showing up at the Poo Bar though, just because they don't post on CA every day. That to my mind is the logical conclusion of the increasingly (I hesitate to use the word cliquey) "regulars and non-regulars" theme that is sometimes expressed on here. The RLM thread was a case in point. I believe it's damaging to CA, and by definition to our overall LM experience, in the long run. We do some bloody amazing stuff on here, charity fund raising, piss-ups, the LM Guide for Dummies are all cases in point and are an absolute credit to those involved. All I'm saying is let's not spoil it!

I have to say there's a huge difference between spammers trying to flog us cheap jewellery and fruit baskets and a guy with an LM movie to plug.  He might quite rightly have thought that some of us would be interested.  I thought Steve Brown's response was bang on. Hope he comes back and contributes a bit more than just a sales pitch in the future.  When I saw this post the first time, I was undecided as to whether to report it as spam but decided not in the end as it seems on topic to me and after some reflection it still does.  As has been said here, we don't have to buy it.

Agreed Termie. after all he was trying to sell somthing that he thought would be of interest to us. If he had never mentioned it there is a chance that we would never know it existed. How can this be classed as Spam?
If he was trying to sell it to a tropical fish keepers forum or suchlike it could then be construde as Spam the same as those trying to flog us flower arrangements and dodgy Viagra.

Give the guy a chance for Christ's sake

By the looks of it, this topic goes into a different direction. Are we that bad to newbies? The only bad reactions I saw was against spammers and that young dude 'viper900dodge'. Has everybody forgotten that not everyone was that nice to mopedboy? Untill he showed his face at Le Mans that was...
I think it has more to do with the time of the year. From March/April onwards untill July/August interested newbies arrive, and from there on it seems only a small 'hardcore' group hang around. I agree we shouldn't scare new people away, but the spammers don't make life easy for people trying to attract us to something interesting.

...and going back ontopic...

I can only agree on this.
