Title: This is dreadful and brings us down to earth
Post by: Lancs Se7en on July 07, 2005, 11:48:09 am
Blasts Hit London Bus And Underground
An explosion has "ripped a bus apart" just minutes after a number of blasts on London's Underground.Scotland Yard has confirmed there has been an explosion on a bus in Tavistock Place. Union sources claim there have been reports of blasts on three different buses.

Witness Belinda Seabrook said she saw an explosion rip though a bus as it approached Russell Square.

"I was on the bus in front and heard an incredible bang. I turned round and half the double decker bus was in the air," she said.

Another witness, Angie, told Sky news: "There were a whole lot of people around the bus. Next thing I was on the floor and there were a lot of people on me.

"I thought I was going to be crushed. The bus was ripped out at the back. It must have been a bomb."

Scotland Yard could not confirm reports of an explosion on a bus in Russell Square. A spokeswoman said police were at the scene and attempting to determine what had happened.

The entire Tube network has been shut down following the blasts at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street and Russell Square.

It is understood several people have been wounded in the underground blasts, with one unconfirmed eyewitness telling Sky News he saw "bodies on the line".

British Transport Police confirmed there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from King's Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around King's Cross covered in soot.

Clare Benson, 33, a city banker from Kensington, was on a tube at Edware Road where the second incident took place.

"I was in the last carriage at the back of the train nearest the tunnel when I heard a huge bang - you could feel it," she said.

"The lights went off for a couple of minutes and people were scared and wondering what to do.

"The drivers got out and were looking into the tunnel, then they announced that we should evacuate. My ears are still ringing and I was shaking."

All buses and tubes in central London have stopped, probably for the rest of the day

Its a long walk, if you have to travel across London

I work in the City, and it's crazy right now. Police have now sound that there where 6 blasts and that the "power surge" was just to keep the public from freaking. I also live 18 miles away from London and my local hospital has been put on alert for the wounded.
Don't know how I'm gonna get home.  Long walk I guess.

Terrible, just awful. I thank God I'm not up there today, though I know many who are. We must not let these wicked evil people ruin everything that was fought so hard for yesterday.

what the terrorists are trying to prove is unclear to me

A terror group linked to al Qaeda has claimed it carried out a series of terror attacks on London that have left a number of people dead and hundreds injured.

Two London hospital have reported a total of 185 wounded after a series of blasts hit locations across the city on buses and Tube stations.

Mobile Phone networks are down in London as they have been used before to trigger more bombs.

A Friend of mine works in the hospital spitting distance from Aldgate East. She's ok, but she'll be busy.

I doubt it's connected to the Olympic win. The G8 will be the reason today was chosen.

Prayers to those who have been effected.

'Tis a sad day, 2 have been declared dead so far, I wouldn't be surprised if that figure rises.
All our thoughts are with the families & friends of those involved.

There is plenty of news going around but how much is true??  There seems to be too much guessing going around the media. I'll save my opinion until tomorrow, once the mass panic has settled a little & for some realistic news reports.

I only wish the former (& current) leaders of our country had been more diplomatic in the past couple of thousand years & maybe this hatred aimed at us would not be around today.

Just remember solving any problem is about prevention & not cure, retaliation is not an answer (as we can see from todays events), be safe out there.

What these bastards do not seem to realise is that the British public has lived with attrocities like this since the
1960s when the IRA started its campagne of explosions on the mainland. We did not surrender to their violence and so we will not surrender now. Tragic as these events are,(especially for those directly involved) they only strengthen the resolve and determination of the British Public never to kow tow to the evil scum that wants to destroy our hard won democracy.

What a hideous, evil and cowardly act. They're saying minimum 40 deaths and 300 serious injuries on the news here.
I think we're long past the time to get tough on this. I also think we've dragged our feet out of fear of offending immigrant members of our society.
I am an immigrant in the US and I am scrutinised very thoroughly. I am ALWAYS picked out of the line for extra security at the airport and I must advise the INS of the slightest changes in my circumstances and undergo very thorough questioning every time I enter the country.
I am very happy to do this if it makes things safer. It doesn't offend me.
We have people who we allow to live amongst us who are hellbent on murdering us. It saddens me to admit this, but I get nervous if any of my fellow plane passengers look middle-eastern.
Of course this might not be a religious fanatic attack - but I'd stake my mortgage that it is.
It's probably time to ask our middle eastern visitors to leave. I know that some will argue that this is a terrible thing to even suggest, but we just make it too bloody easy for murderous lunatics to hide amongst us.
I'm an infidel and f**k*ng proud of it.

Agreed. Watched a bit on tv and there seems to be reasonable calm. There doesn't seem to be the ridiculous media speculation that we sometimes get on such occasions.

Having said that, this all makes me so angry and sad. I reckon whoever's responsible is going to catch it big for doing this little lot.

I fear we are being drip fed the full picture; probably because nobody actually knows the full picture at the moment.
A full scale emergency plan is in full operation in London, with the COBRA group having met twice today already. We have known for a very lomng time that this was coming, it was just a case of when and where.
For all those who object to carrying an ID card, SUS laws, CCTV and the whole Big Brother thing, it could well be time to reconsider any objection that you may have.

Show me the queue for ID cards, I'll be at the front!

Pretty sure the scum that did this would have id cards and uk passports, besides it did'nt stop the Madrid bomb, But thats a debate for another time.

Lucky I was not in London today, was due in later today but in light of the events the meeting was cancelled.

Looking at the picture of the Bus and seeing it had been turned away from the tube makes me think the worst, 21 dead at one station and at least 33 in total so far, plus many hurt in the blasts.

Hoping for the best, fearing the worst.

I hope which every god these evil SOB's pray to takes them apart, and they burn in there very own hell.

When I posted this thread this morning I was disgusted and appalled at what had happened. Now that the full extent of the fatalities and injuries is becoming known, at least that which we are being told about, I am very very saddened and very very angry. I have personal experience as a victim of a terrorist attack, Kuwait in 1984, and it shakes you through to the bone and beyond.
The suffering of all of the victims and their families will go on for years to come and with what objective. So far no one has managed to explain this to me in a way which will allow me to accept what has happened and I guess will continue to happen.

My sincere thoughts go out to all of those affected and believe me, that will not only be the direct victims and their families.

A sad sad day for all of us who value our freedom.

What an insulting way to pursue a cause. Whatever that cause may be.

And my thanks to those in the emergency services and the transport companies for their rapid, efficient and appropriate response.

According to the Secret Organisation of al Qaida " Britain is burning with fear and terror" ?
F-ck off are we.
We respect the innocent dead and injured and their poor families who have to pick up the pieces, but I hope the do gooders and politically correct pratts now realise that people who intend us harm need to be delt with just swiftly. History has little to do with it, its more to do with a minority of manic egotists and weak willed idiots who allow themselves to be brain washed into doing such things.

I woke up this AM to get ready for work and turned on the TV to see the news while I had my bowl of ceral.  I was saddened to see and hear what had happened in London.  A month ago, I was at several of the locations we are hearing about here in the US.  I happily met JPChenet and his wife at my hotel two blocks from Kings Cross Station.  So this deal is very personal to me even though I'm not a Londoner.  It was a reminder of 911 and Madrid and a list of other events as long as ones arm where uneducated, misguided pawns of an evil idiology had struck again.  It is indeed another sad day for civilized people of the world to tolerate vermin on our soil.
I hope none of my fellow CA'ers or your families were physically affected by this but all of us have been emotionally impacted.  And as previously posted, we are with you, no matter what country you are from, who believe in freedom.  Stay safe.  My family and I send our prayers to you.

Whilst I understand and respect the sentiment, I personally cannot agree with this statement. The IRA are/were cowardly, child-murdering monsters.
As a father myself, I frequently think of that guy (shame on me, I don't even remember his name) who's son was blown to pieces by the IRA in Warrington. I grew up through the IRA bombing London and I rember how everyone was awre of what was happening but would not let it stop them working. Listning to the radio it seems that the spirt is there again.

My heart goes out to all those involved. But we must not/will not let them win.

I suppose that we will now see a backlash aimed at the muslim community in this country.

We have more than our share of racist loonies is this country who will proberbly take this attrocity as an oppertunity to attack innocent law abiding muslims. I am sure that the vast majority of muslims are as shocked and appalled as we are, but that will not stop the lunatic vigilanty element seeing them as fair game. A few beers too many and any ethnic person, home, or business could be seen as a legitimate target. I believe it happened in the States just after 9 11 when any one wearing a turban was deemed to be a terrorist and some were even shot at.
I sincerely hope this does not happen as it is a very short slope to slide into total anarchy from which it will be very hard recover

Undoubtedly true. However, were everyone issued with ID cards, the over stretched thin blue line would be able to better identify those that warrant closer scrutiny, a little more easily.
I work in a area heavily populated by a Muslim community. For the vast majority of the time, I have found them to be honest, trustworthy and gentle. i just hope that we don't descend into a country of racist witch hunters, where every Tom, Dick and Ali is a suspect.

I was not condoning what the IRA did and there are several occasions where
warnings were not given.    Like The Birmingham Pub Bombings.   There was also the Bomb in Coventry where the bomb went off prematurely killing the bomber.
But I don't think we would class him as a suicide bomber.

There is no such thing as "good or honest" terrorisum.   It all just terrorisum.

I am so glad that you guys in London are OK. ID cards would not stop this from happening but might help a little in population control. I dont think that is what is needed however.

Maybe it will come to a general repatriation if the "ethnic community" dont start to keep their own houses in order. A terrible prospect but we should strive for an alternative. Many of these people were born here but still subscribe to the terrorist ideals, frankly, living in / near Brum it scares the hell out of me, who is the next one to have gone bad?

Anyway I am glad that the toll is not as bad as it could have been, keep vigilant, these scum will be back for more, but they won't break us. We will survive and over come.

Bloody hell I sound like a thingy of doom here!!!

Timothey Parry and Jonathan Ball were the two children killed in Warrington that day, I live in warrington and have done all my life and was at school with Timothey's eldest brother, and my own brother was at school with his younger sister. Both myself and my brother were on bridge street that same day and walked past the ill fated bin outside boots were the bomb was left. Frightening yes will it stop me going into town NEVER DID in fact my own house is only five mins walk from the town centre.

Bombings as has been said will only make us more steadfast and resilient against terrorism, and hopefully the people who know the terrorists may start shopping them not hiding them.
