Title: Kangaroo TV
Post by: clkgtrlm1 on May 22, 2009, 07:04:26 pm
Does anyone know what the area coverage will be like for Kangaroo TV this year?
Had it last year and it was excellent, but not sure if it worked much further away from circuit than Karting Nord!

We are in Pincenardiere this year - do you know if it will receive there?
Anyone with any experience last year - did it work in Arnage or even Mulsanne?

Thanks
Dean

Mods - move this to HELP if you think it is more appropriate

Anyone..............?

Vegas is the man you need to talk to, but he's at the Ring this weekend.
One of his party had a one last year, and I think they tried it at the further spots on the circuit.

No it didn't work at Arnage or Mulsanne, last year it worked from Tertre Rouge untill the bottom of MB for me.

Why don't you send the people at kangarooTV an e-mail to see how things are for 2009?

Coverage varies massively. Apparently the teams are being told that coverage is only guaranteed in the Paddock! But I'm sure that's them just being a bit careful.

A bigger problem though is that it might not be Radio le Mans on the sets. Doesn't that mean there'd be no English? I asked the guys at RLM and they said they didn't have an agreement to supply Kangaroo. And that was only last week!

We had no problem with coverage at Tertre Rouge, at Houx Annexe, in the village, on the T19 grandstand and at the bottom of Maison Blanche.

So assuming that Kangaroo TV won't use a lesser set-up than last year, I think it's safe to say that you can expect coverage from Tertre Rouge untill the Porsche Curves.

why would you assume that???

Because last year's setup worked fine, why change it?

or have you any indication that KangarooTV will downgrade their setup for 2009?

No offense delaney64 but you say KangarooTV will might not supply english commentary, will have a downgraded setup and are in financial difficulties?

That's a whole lot just to take your word for.

StuartC: KangarooTV has a booth at the track where you can rent them, they come with 2 batteries, a charger and earplugs.
Also you can exchange empty batteries for full ones.
Also you can reserve one online here:

OK. Here's the news.

RLM say they don't have a deal in place but are still talking to Kangaroo.
They also said that RLM has exclusive English language broadcast rights at the track so, theoretically, KTV couldn't get commentary elsewhere.
But they hope thay can do a deal.

Kangaroo is no different than most companies in Nth America (they are based in Canada) in that they have had to tighten their belts a lot. In terms of resource they have very much been concentrating their efforts on F1. Their NASCAR deal doesn't earn them much because of the way it was structured (I thought they might be OK because NASCAR is such a huge market...)

There's no suggestion currently that they will downgrade the service at Le Mans in terms of area covered.

The guys at RLM just said 'we rely for funding on the partnerships we are able to develop and the revenues flowing from them'

Anyone fancy reading between the lines on that?

Yes. RLM is a business, which needs income, and they expect to generate revenue from what they believe are their "exclusive English rights".
Fair enough.

I had access to a Kangaroo last year, and cannot recommend it too highly.
But don't expect it to work at Arnage or Mulsanne.

Edit: If the ACO supply another sound feed to Kangaroo, RLM will have to  claim against the ACO and not against Kangaroo for any breach of their "exclusive" rights.

So it's nothing more than a bunch of rumors from RLM who are trying to secure a deal  :o

More innuendo.

Like I told you earlier one can assume that Kangaroo will use the same set-up as last year, maybe even better but certainly not downgraded.

Anyone fancy reading between the lines on that?
No, I rather stick to the facts and those are that KTV confirm on their website that they'll have English commentary available and that everybody can check out themselves which commentary that is, before renting a Kangaroo TV at Le Mans

Sorry Bas but I think that is bang out of order!

I asked the question and I posted the answer here. THEY.DON'T.HAVE. A. DEAL. YET

I'm not peddling innuendo. It's a fact.

As far as I'm concerned, the innuendo you peddled is that that Kangaroo are in financial difficulties.

It's a shame that you only ever post on this forum to present RLM's point of view.
Now you are using another name to post RLM's point of view on another forum. Delaney and Stahler, both characters in the film Le Mans.

That's not true either.

Kpy, I really don't mean to be rude or disrespectful. I am a newbie and I don't have many posts under my belt. It's true I have commented on RLM a lot. But that's because it keeps me in touch with a sport I love and which gets pretty woeful TV coverage. I also like Hindy and his crew.

I originally came on this forum a couple of years ago when someone was pretty rude about Hindy's firist year in charge. I suppose that's why I follow the thread when it comes up (and when I have time to come on here)

You are quite right to take me to task about my comment on KTV's business though. I just thought it was a reasonable conclusion to make given their marketplace. But I'd be furious if someone did it to me...unguarded comment. Apologies to all concerned.

I'll shut up now  :(

Yes, a good way. It's nice to see a bit of heated debate back on the forum. It's boring if we all agree on everything.

I asked the question - and have not received an answer yet.
Has anyone managed to contact Kangaroo - they have not replied to my emails??

Anyone still got last years coverage map perchance?
What does it matter about RLM being on Kangaroo anyway............
Just watch the pictures on KTV and listen to commentry on RLM ??? ??? ???

The innuendo you (or RLM??) are peddling is:

- Kangaroo TV are in financial difficulties  (no confirmation on that whatsoever)
- Kangaroo TV will use a downgraded set-up (which you had to retract)
- Kangaroo TV will have no English commentary  (which is nothing more than a rumor)
- Kangaroo TV can only use RLM for English commentary (says who? right RLM how convenient  :o)

The only FACT you are stating is that Radio Le Mans has apparently no deal with Kangaroo TV and that they found it necessary to tell that to some of their listeners/fans/spokespeople by e-mail.

Thank you very much for bringing us that message here, it would be a shame if RLM is not on Kangaroo TV this year but the vast majority of French LM visitors probably won't notice and like clkgtrlm1 said, there are very easy ways to circumvent this problem.

That's all on this from me, now do keep us posted on RLM's point of view please and say hello to Stahler from me  ;D

I love keyboard warriors..... >:D

Why don't you both take to the ring at Le-Mans instead of fighting here??  All you need is a plastic sheet, a tub of butter, and a gimp mask.....

As well as settling your differences, it's also surprisingly good fun......

Finally had a reply from Kangaroo -

Dear M.Fowler ,

I am Stephan Lambert , Ops manager for the 2009 LEMANS.
The good news for 2009 is that we add a fourth transmission site that should cover Pincenardière area.
This will be the first year that this area will have coverage.
My RF engineer did spectrum analysis and ensure me that the area will be covered.
However ,on-site test will be done Tuesday before the event in order to validate the theorical analysis.

Thank you for your interest,

Stephan

Don't know if this helps anyone else, but should ensure coverage in Pin, Beasejour, Porsche Curves etc.
Maybe I should offer to meet up wtih them on Tuesday and bribe them with beer to ensure it is working!!
