Title: Well done Lewis!
Post by: redstu on November 02, 2008, 09:01:20 pm
The race was a little dull in the middle , but the last lap more than made up for it!

hmm, as a Lewis fan i liked the fact that he got the championship in the end, but he was one lucky bastard.

Massa deserved it today, Lewis got it

Congratulations on being the youngest champ ;D,  however I wonder how much Toyota were paid to drop back on the second to last corner >:D

Hats off to Massa for winning the race, did what was expected of him.

And the best news of all NO MORE JAMES ALLEN. The cock has been stopped ;D, just hope he does not get the gig with the Beeb. ::)

OMG........ What a race!

Massa drove a great race!

Glock & Trulli both did a 1.44.00 on the last lap on dry tyres.

Thank god the appaulling stewarding decisions from earlier races didn't become a factor in the end!

I will never get tired of watching the Ferrari team stop celebrating when they realise Lewis bagged 5th spot - splendid!!!

Just like Hamilton deserved it last year but didn't get it.

The kid did well.

Glock gambled and lost.  If Hamilton had have stayed on slicks he would have been 10 seconds ahead of Glock and still won. Hmmmmmmm

All this and Max retires

Today's news: Hamilton to move to Toyota for next season ;D

Job well donefor Lewis! At the end of the day he was te better driver throughout the season.

Watching Ferrari cheer for Massa and then realizing he did not get the championship, PRICELESS!!!!

Massa drove an impeccable race doing exactly what he had to , Hamilton I felt was far to cautious and nearly blew it, not what you would expect a great champion to do.

Congratulations to him and his crew all the same as his season was superb and the penalties he suffered at the hands of Ferrari were certainly paid back in full when the fact dawned on the Ferrari team that Massa hadn't won the championship, priceless, just desserts the rats. What goes around, comes around as they say.

The reactions of the Brasilian crowd were truly disgraceful. Perhaps the FIA should have an enquiry there just as FIFA do.

Agreed. Congratulations to Lewis but I can't help thinking that a true champion shouldn't have allowed Vettel to pass him with so much at stake. His driving was very erratic in the last few laps.

For all the comments on just how close it was & how he/McLaren nearly blew it, we have to remember that he did not give up, he kept trying, he kept up with Vettel and was in the right place to take advantage of Glock's tyre choice misfortune.

I think that his attitude in & out of the car is what has made him the champion.

Not wholly surprised by the reaction of the Brazilian crowd.  Can we be sure that a British crowd would not have reacted in a similar fashion?

If F1 was to be as good as that in every one of the 19 scheduled races for 2009 then I might just watch.  Might.

Anyway :: Well Done Lewis  ;D

Anyone else at Brands in the mid 70's when James Hunt was not allowed to take the restart will know just how a british crowd can react!!

Hamilton did what he needed, the championship was won over the full season, Massa won more races, but over the season dispite the FIA's best efforts Hamiliton did a better job.

The reaction of Ferrari was priceless, had to feel a bit sorry for Massa's family who seem pretty decent, and a bit less overbearing than Hamiltons dad but the rest of them derserve what they got IMHO.

The jammy git!  :D

Thought it was a very tense race, you could see McLaren were trying to keep him out of trouble; yet again their weakness is shown as tactical and it nearly cost Lewis the title. Still, all's well that ends well and it was truly exiting and that's what makes us sports fans I guess, the unexpected.

As mentioned, seeing the Ferrari team leaping around on cloud 9, then slowly their jaws dropping as the ghastly reality dawned on them, was the very definition of schadenfreud; rejoicing in the misfortuneof others. I know you're not supposed to enjoy that kind of thing, and old man Massa seems a pretty decent sort of cove, but for once I'll suspend my Corinthian principles; it could not have happend to a more unpleasant bunch of bigheads and show-offs.

Blimey!

How often would you see "schadenfreud" used on this website [or any other for that matter]

Well done sir!

At the end of the day well done to Lewis and McLaren.  But the reality is that it was a entirely laughable F1 championship this year (and I struggle to call it F1 anymore without gagging).  Both Hamilton and Massa made a catalog of mistakes that in any other season would have cost them the championship month's ago.  Prost would have had this whole lot for lunch!  If I play Autocourse editor and rank my top ten (does Autocourse even do that anymore? Haven't purchased a copy in twelve years) Alonso gets the number one ranking by a mile, followed by Vettel and Kubica.  Hamilton will eventually win more titles, far more gloriously than this year.  Not a vintage year for F1...
Jesus lets not even mention the proposed spec engines ::)

I think your being a trifle harsh on the current generation of drivers. Given that this is only LH 2nd season he has done a very good job, true he has made some horrfic cock ups but over the season I think he matured and is one of the few prepared to have a go and pass.

The others, Vettel is going to be huge, I just hope Red Bull can give him a car to compete, Alonso as a driver is 1st class, as you say.

But Massa, KR, and Kubica are also on their day very good. I bet KR is happy massa did not win, so he can try to retain his No 1 spot at Ferrari but in my view he needs to be alot more focused.

I would love to know what Hamiliton could do in a Ferrari 312 or Lotus 25, I have the feeling he would be there or there abouts in the same way as Laude or Clark would cope well with a modern car.

We can look forward to next years cars, slicks are back and the add on wings will be gone so the cars will at least look a bit better, but the new rules re rear wings may result in some odd looking devices.

I agree that Vettel and Kubica will be tremendous forces in the sport for years to come, along with Alonso and Hamilton.  He may not be the nicest bloke out there but Alonso is clearly destined to be among the greats.  Hamilton will also be great, but needs to cutback on the screw-ups and over-ambitious overtaking manuevers, especially once Kubica and Vettel find themselves in truly competitve equipment, he'll throw away too many points.  Its a good thing contemporary McLaren's are so sturdy, because he just goes clanging into things left & right, and the car holds togther.  I'm not anywhere close to being as sold on Massa, I suspect that this season will probably have been Massa's closest sniff at a world title.  To me he's another Rene Arnoux, terrific one week, a shambles the next.  I just can't seem to say Massa and world champion in the same sentence, the same way I could never picture David Coulthard wearing number one.

It is hard to see massa as anything other than a good number 2. But given his pace in the 2nd half of the season maybe we should think again. If he gets a better start to the season than kR, then the Finns head will go down again. Ferrari seem to find it hard not to focus on a single driver.

If the season was decided on race wins. Massa would have won this year.

Fax, Have you voted yet?

Ordinarily I would have thought Massa wouldn't have seen which way Kimi went, but its hard to figure out what was going on with Raikkonen this year, either he just couldn't get on with the 08 car or just lost his focus completely...or both!  But in the grand scheme of things I don't think Massa is in Kimi's class.  In a few years when they do another one of those books about the top one hundred GP drivers of all-time, KR is going to pop up alot higher toward the top than Massa.
Voted about three hours ago, good riddance to the hillbilly in the White House and his Hitler Youth administration!  Very very early yet, but things look like a Obama win from the exit polling going on.  Ohio is going to be one of the key states tonight, I've done my part!
The polls close here at 7:30

Rupert, (can't get used to calling you by your proper name!) I trust you'll be joining me and Fax on the scaffold at Turn 10 to shoot the sh*t on racers past, the glories of Hunt, Gilles, Senna  >:(, Jags and Porkers etc and gobbing from the hights onto the Harpers below whilst watching contemporary sportscars on a proper old fashioned race track. I can't remember many happier few hours than spent doing that in 2005.

PS Fax, please don't let me down, if I book that flight you better bloody be there this time! OR ELSE!
