My mates who are doing the Mongolian Rally are currently in Voldegrad having a few cold beers for the next day or so.

I have searched the net for the past 2 hours trying to find out  if the border crossings are open at weekends, between russia and Kazahkstan on the south western border.

Can any of you who are super surfers help as I am at a loss.

can't asist with the actual information but I do have some info on Kazakhstan
London Kazak Embassy
33 Thurlowe Sq, London SW7 2DS
020 7584 9905

British Embassy in Almaty
Street Furmanova 173
Almaty +7 573 1502200

I hope they have a visa as I don't think they are available on arrival (mine took over a week to get)
There are very few ATM's outside Almaty or Astana. US$ are welcome in most places.

Hope that helps

In addition to the info from my well travelled big brother, try www.waytorussia.net
There is a forum there and I am pretty sure someone there will be able to help.

Their visas were all sorted before they left.

The only problem they have had so far is ripping the exhaust off in Romania and being refused entry into the Ukraine on a technicality on the log book,on second visit got through ok.

And a Mini is the first to arrive in the Mongolian capital today.......not bad 9000 miles in 13 days!!!!!
