Title: TV Coverage?
Post by: Mjit on May 03, 2007, 12:50:53 pm
Anyone heard anything on TV coverage of this years Le Mans?

By this point last year I'm sure the ACO were shouting about full coverage on Cannel+ and MotorsTV but not seen/heard anything this year?

I have had some contact with Marc Cole from MotorsTV, and he said they will broadcast even more than last year.
The MotorsTV crew will try to come by on Friday night at DfH ;D

As Paddy says, the coverage is great this year.  I'm currently watching the 1988 race which is on at the moment as part of their "Countdown to Le Mans" series.  It's a pity that Motors is so difficult to get in the UK.  Much better here where it's part of the very basic Canal + package.  Because unlike the other channels who've been given the rights in the past, they really take it seriously.  Great job last year, certainly.

I watched that the other night, Termie - absolutely fantastic.  Thought I might get a glimpse of yours truly at the finish as I was right opposite the Jag pits, but the cameras didn't pan round that far.  Autosport did, however, feature me on the front page of their next issue (see below).  LM was early that year -  11 June, and also race started at 3.00

Honest, I really was there!!  Thats me with my arms raised, next to the higher of the two Union Flags.

As I understand it, this is the second year of Motors TV two year deal.

Has anyone heard any news of an extension of the deal as they did a great job last year?

Cheers

HTB!

Coo, that's optimistic, hgb, that a TV deal will get struck, before the previous one's expired.  They have to fight over money (and fight off Mr Murdoch) first!

No because the only time when it's any use, I'm at the circuit, although I have it as part of my membership.

With the big one only a couple of weeks away now, I thought you all might like to know how Motors TV UK will be handling this year's 75th Le Mans 24 Hours.

Following the success of our debut 24 Hours broadcast last year, Martin Haven and I will be presenting live coverage live from scrutineering in the city centre on Monday and Tuesday, bringing you the rites of 'le passage' together with interviews with drivers and team managers.

We are joined by David Leslie and Diana Binks live at the track on Wednesday and Thursday nights for qualifying, then on Friday Carlton Kirby will bring you the Drivers Parade.

Our race weekend coverage starts at 08.00 Saturday with the 24 Hours warm-up, followed by the Le Mans Legends race which will be covered for us by historic experts Neville Hay and Chris Parsons.

Motors TV will be live on air for the rest of Saturday and Sunday, our core commentary team joined by drivers and personalities as we bring you in all more than 50 hours of coverage. Martin is threatening to go for 24 hours non-stop - bets are being taken on this forum...

Note that the 24 Hours starts at 15.00 local time, 14.00 UK this year.

MARK COLE

UK Timings at present are:
Monday June 11 Scrutineering:  13.30 - 17.00
Tuesday June 12 Scrutineering:  07.30 - 16.00
Weds June 13 Qualifying 1: 18.00 - 23.00
Thurs June 14 Qualifying 2: 18.00 - 23.00
Friday June 15 Drivers Parade: 17.00 - 18.00
Sat June 16 Warm-up, Legends, Race: 08.00 - 00.00
Sun June 17 Race: 00.00 - 14.30

We don't have 'posh telly' at our house so hopefully Dickie Davis will give it a mention on World of Sport.

No but I have Followed the LMS on the webcam. This year the ACO are putting; live timing, 4 webcams that update every 5 seconds, live radio, live photos, live info and video on the website. However you have to pay about £8, or if you are a member of the ACO it is free.

If it works that's not bad at eight quid.  I will of course, barring unforseen disasters, be there  ;D

I'm hoping that there will be some pre-qual coverage this weekend to supplement, Moto GP, WTCC et al.. ;D
