He won't drive (IMO), I think the decision has been made but for many reasons it won't be announced until nearer the time (when the Danes are all on their way).

That was a big big shunt he was involved in and whatever was said about him being fine after it, he really would have to be superman not to have suffered some damage.

Do we know this as a fact or is this speculation at this point?

Snatched from another forum, from Audi Communication Motorsport:

Ingolstadt, 08 June 2007

Press conference with Tom Kristensen on June 11

Dear ladies and gentlemen,
Dear colleagues,

Tom Kristensen has won the Le Mans 24 Hours already seven times. This makes the Audi factory driver the most successful driver in the history of the world’s most important endurance race which will be run for the 75th time on the weekend of 16/17 June.

Whether Tom Kristensen will be able to race for Audi Sport Team Joest at Le Mans as planned following his severe accident at the DTM opener at Hockenheim will be decided after final health checks.

Tom Kristensen would like to communicate the decision personally to you. Thus we would like to cordially invite you to a

Press conference with Le Mans record winner Tom Kristensen
on Monday, 11 June at 12:00 noon
in the Hilton Copenhagen Airport Hotel

Apart from Tom Kristensen, Siegfried Krause from Audi Sport, and a doctor aiding with his recuperation plus myself will be at your disposal.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Copenhagen.

With sporting regards
AUDI AG

Hmmmm, makes it sound even more like he's out this year!  Sad

Would we need a press conference to announce that he's OK and will be there?  Roll Eyes

No, they would have just issued a press release saying that everything is OK and that he drives at Le Mans - or doing a press conference on Monday in Le Mans

The fact that this will hapen in Copenhagen means more likely that he will not drive in Le Mans. According to a german news website there are even rumours that he might end his career Sad

Well, would be a shame. I still remember his first time in Le MAns - he was a pay driver for Team Joest then - winning it together with Alboreto and Johansson

I really hope that isn't the case, although he has a young family and somthing like this must make you take a long hard look at your life and make some important decisions!

It's quite starnge actually in that he has a lot of respect for Jackie Ickx and whenever you hear him speak it's almost as though he doesn't want to excede Ickx's record!

From Autosport

Kristensen makes cockpit return

Tom Kristensen drove a DTM car for the first time since his accident at Hockenheim on Saturday evening at Brands Hatch.

The Dane drove an Audi A4, which is usually used for giving rides to passengers, but he was alone in the two-seater car.

Kristensen will announce on Monday the decision regarding his participation at Le Mans, and this was his only opportunity to drive any sort of car before making a final decision.

The seven-time Le Mans winner completed two runs of around 10 laps, although both times he stayed out for extra laps after receiving the 'IN' signal from the Audi team.

Kristensen was lapping within two seconds of the pole position lap time set by Mika Hakkinen earlier in the day, which was respectable considering that he was running on old tyres in a modified car.

However, Audi were not interested in lap times, as one of the reasons for the test was to see how consistent the 39-year-old's pace was.
