Paddy and I have been discussing getting together to hire a huge, silent running generator for Le Mans this year between our groups. Firstly, the more power you have, the cheaper it is per kW, secondly, the larger genny's are diesel so cheaper to run, and thirdly they are so quiet when compared to the smaller (650W - 2.1kW) ones that you can leave them running 24/7 so fridges/freezers etc can be run all night without disturbing your neighbours. Paddy went to see one yesterday and when he coughed it was louder than the generator.

One option is to go for a 10kVA one between us, or another option is to get a 30kVA one and offer the chance for others to "tap in" to it.

So, is anyone interested in joining in on the share of a huge power supply?

We worked out that last year our 2.1kW genny went through between 15 and 20 Euros of Petrol per day, plus of course purchase or rental cost. So we were thinking of a contribution equal to this per day, saving others the need to buy ro rent a genny, or indeed the need to bring one down to Le Mans at all, taking up valuable booze space on the way back!!

Naturally we would all need to be camping in the same area, but then a lot of us do already anyway!

If anyone is interested, please let Paddy or I know as soon as possible, indicating when you arrive on site/depart so that we can manage how much power we would need. We can always get an even bigger generator if necessary. You would need to provide your own long extension cable to get the power to your own pitches.

You're either at Le Mans, or waiting for Le Mans!

I'd be interested, Mark.  My 'van is a continental one and a lot of things are mains-driven.  Although I've put a battery in it, it only gives me half the lights etc.

Wouldn't be a heavy load.

Are you aiming to pitch in more or less the same area this year?  I intend to - close to the track, close to the Tropicoma tap and close to Paddy's entertainment!!  I'll be there either Sunday or Monday.

Cheers

It's basically comparable to a truck running stationary. Nice, quiet and monotone.

We need at least six 'takers' to make it interesting for us, otherwise that noisy bugger from last year will be cheaper for us.

Our intention is to make it more quiet and cheaper for everyone. Now where's mr. Toad? Cheesy

That's the current plan Delboy, assuming we get there before anyone else nabs it of course!

We were looking at a 3 KVA silent like last year, but space is an issue fortransport this year.

What £££ are we looking at ?

We go where we are because of the elecricity.  I can't see the others will want to change, as we've got quite used to the area

Should be £10,- maximum a day, which means it should be less than the daily petrol bill - and of course the hassle and dangerous handling of petrol is out of the way. Diesel tank on the generator is big enough to be having to fill it up once every two days.
We're working on Dutch Red Diesel (no roadtax included), which should be cheaper for the first four full days.
