Title: LMES at Silverstone - August 2004
Post by: Truffette on June 15, 2004, 06:43:23 pm
Hi there ! :)

I'm a newbie in club arnage, I'm a french girl, just coming back from Le Mans (great race, except for the pescarolo #17, too bad they couldn't finish :( I love that team ! )

Well, I need to ask you some questions about Silverstone, I'm gonna go there for the first time in my life next august for the LMES race !

1st : is it possible to buy tickets for camping and all stuff at the last moment ? or do I have to book everything in advance ? is there any website that gives some information about ticket price, camping, ... ? (like lemans.org)

2nd : how much do you usually pay for the ferry when you come in France ? what company do you travel with ? Is there any problem to take the ferry with sportscars ? I have an old 911 RS 3.0 1974 replica, which is very low (the front spoiler is about 5 inches from the ground) and I'm afraid it could be impossible to come on board with it...

3rd and last question : will some of you come to Silverstone this year for the LMES ? I'd be pleased to meet you there !
And do you think many people will come ? Because for the first race at Monza, there were really not enough people !!!  :(

thanx for all !

Truffette : o)

Firstly, I for one will be at Silverstone.
As of now there is no website with ticket prices etc, but buying them on the day is no problem. Expect maybe a 40 -50,000 turn out maximum. The place holds 90,000 so no worries about getting tickets. We will be lucky if they advertise it here anytime before 3 weeks before the race. Camping shouldn't be a problem.

Got to end this here or I will get locked in at work !
Regards
Chris

Hi Chris !

thanx for the answer ! Hope we'll meet there !  :D

Any information about the ferry ?

I think I saw some of you last week end at 'le tertre rouge' corner, some guys in front of me were wearing 'club arnage' tee shirts  ;)

Ferry prices depend on which route you are taking - for Calais/Dover, I would expect to pay around 140-160 Euros; for the other crossings like Caen/Portsmouth you can pay up to 500 euros or more if you are on the night sailings with cabins booked.   Your 911RS replica should do fine on the main ferries - my MGA has about the same clearance and I've never had a problem. ;D  Enjoy the trip and keep asking questions - there is always someone here with the answer!

No worries - you may find some useful info about Silverstone here.

http://www.silverstone-circuit.co.uk/ (http://www.silverstone-circuit.co.uk/)

Never had the need to camp at Silverstone as it is only an hour from home; I don't know whether camping at the circuit will be available for the LMES race, so I can't really help with that one - if it isn't, there are plenty of places nearby.

Truffette, was that you behind the two of us at Tertre Rouge for the start? You should have said hello. Even if it wasn't us you should still have said hello, all the Club Arnagers at Le Mans were the greatest bunch of people you could expect to meet. I met a multitude of good people.

Bill

Hi Perdu ! I wasn't at le tertre rouge for the start... I was in the Porsche corner, I saw the 2 Audis go straight into the tyres, and a Porsche and a Ferrari following them a few seconds after...
I spent a moment at le tertre rouge during the night and also on sunday morning... :)

next year, you can be sure I'll come and say hello  ;)

your car should go up fine on the ferry,
A couple of Bike engined kit cars didn't fair so well - one cracked it's sump on the way over leaving its trail up the slipway.

The ALMS race at Silverstone a couple of years ago was THE BEST race I have ever witnessed. Hope this one lives up to it.

I slept in the car after and stayed for FIA GT race following day, a few others were camping, so no problems.

I will be at the the LEMS at Sillystone, well it is only 6 miles up the road from me, it would be rude not to. So any CA'ers up for a beer or three in Buckingham on Friday or Sat night?

Now theres a silly question................ :D

On the camping front Silverstone dont run camping but there is camping avalible. The Silverstone hand book only has Whittlebury Golf & Country Park in it. But you can usualy camp across from the main gates. If any one whants to know I will enquire.

Just had a chat with Silverstone Racing Club regarding LMES, and in typcal BRDC fashion the SRC have no information yet, so no info on prices or wether the race will be run on the Sat or the Sun. But as soon as I hear anything I will post it up. As for camping at the momment it is only at Whittlebury - you have contact them direct 01327 858 092.

The race will be on sunday, that's not the point  ;)

what does Whittlebury look like ? is it big enough ?

Title: Re:LMES at Silverstone - August 2004
Post by: Bobblehat on June 16, 2004, 06:30:03 pm
Whittelbury is a large golf course and country hotel (I doubt you will be on the course!) Its is outside the track, in line with maggots and the hanger straight. Its run by the BRDC or who ever it is that runs Silverstone these days. It should be big enough as it is used for the BGP. As for the race dat it could well be Sat as when the ALMS came to Silverstone they ran on the Sat. (cracking finish that was too). As I said I will post more info as I get it.

I hope to see you there

Sorry just re read my last post, it should of said that its(the camping at Whittelbury) NOT run by the BRDC........

Its also were a lot of the F1 teams stay and I would think quite a few of the ELMS teams would be too. Not camping you understand.......

I have more info on ELMS at Silverstone.

Silverstone Racing Club have been told that the race will be on the Sat (British F3 and GT Sun) starting a 2pm finishing at 8pm.

I might get back to Buckingham for a quick pint or two

Post by: mgb1975 on June 21, 2004, 02:36:37 pm
I'm definitely hoping to be there  ;D

As for ferries, I can recommend Transmanche - I paid 60 Euros per car for Le Mans, and got as good as anything I've had with the big name ferry comapnies. They run from Dieppe to Newhaven - apart from the lunchtime crossing, their schedule is at fairly anti-social hours, but apart from that they were great. There was a Lambo Gallardo that had some trouble getting on and off, but everything else (including Porsches and bike-engined Seven-alikes) were fine.

OK For those that might make it to Silverstone for the ELMS here are a few phone numbers for Hotels & B&B's

Buckingham Beales Buckingham (***) 9 miles from Silverstone 01280 822622
Travel Lodge Towcester (***) 5 miles - 08700 850950
Green Man nr Silverstone - 2 miles - 01280 850209
The Whale Hotel Buckingham - 8 miles - 01280 815537 (Bobblehats local ;D)
The Folly Inn Adstock - 10 miles - 01296 712671
Harben House Newport Pagnell - 20 miles - 01908 215600 (but its were Aston Martin is)

For the very posh there is

Villars Hotel (****) Buckingham - 01280 822444
Whittelbury Hall (****) Whittelbury - 01327 857 857

Some of the these hotels might give you a discount if you mention "Silverstone Motorsport"

Also try the Northants, Bucks and Milton Keynes tourist websites. Milton Keynes is only about 15-20 away there is all the main chains in the center and around.

If I pick up any more phone numbers for B&B I will post them.

I hope this helps

Whittelbury Hall (****) Whittelbury - 01327 857 857

Couldn't agree more!

I 've been ringing Silverstone weekly since LM for ticket/camping info, as it looks like the Commer will be weaving her merry way, but they won't say anything yet.(Other than the race is definitely going ahead). Think we might get away with just a parking spot though...

Truffette, depending where you come from from, the tunnel may be a good option, You can get tickets for as little as £11,  that maybe a late return, youy'll need to investigate.

Sav

Yes, Andy's coming, but we're only going if there is a champagne bar!

The LMES race is 2pm - 8pm on Sat, and the F3+GT meeting is on the Sunday, but they're still not giving anything else away. If only us Brits were as organised as the French...

You could always get a mate to get tickets and mail them to you with a note saying "thought you'd like a great surprise" or such like, leading you into the "isn't that thoughtful, it would be really rude to refuse etc...".   That way you don't have to go down the "good for ones inner self" route which would doubtless lead to unwanted exploration of that inner self......
