Excellent news!  Enjoy the visit today and look forward to seeing the update later (and thanks for keeping us updated so well) although regaining the ability to talk will, of course, mean that Deb will now be able to issue tasks and demands to you now..... Take flowers, grapes and choccies and enjoy a milestone on the way to recovery.  Grin

Yes, both airbags deployed. Deb's had a small amount of blood on it, although she didn't suffer any significant injury to head or thorax. What was marvellous, when I looked at the wreck, was how little the engine/transmission had moved backwards. Deb had pointed out ages ago that this model of Micra had a very good NCAP rating - proved in practice! I think Deb's injuries are consistent with her having "submarined" under the seat belt in the impact, so she went to meet the scuttle, rather than it coming in on her. My inference is that crutch straps, which would prevent such an event, are the safest way to go, and I must say to all who have older, and perhaps less crashworthy vehicles, due to their design age, that you might think about this. Sadly, crutch straps will never be popular in family cars for comfort and convenience reasons. Had Deb had them, she might almost have walked away....

Thanks for that Ian. Personally I could never wear crutch straps, they'd chaffe on my Ipcresses too much on a day to day basis and in the event of an accident like Deb's the impact may well burst them. The pain would be beyond description, as anyone who's suffered from the Nuremburg Trials will testify.

Thanks for the updates Ian, how are you holding up?

Any more news or discussion on a transfer to LeMans?

Stay strong regards to Debs.

Deb is sitting up in bed completely lucid. Remembers the accident, everything until she was sedated. Apparently my version of the event is a bit adrift. Deb found her lane blocked by a car lying on its side – having just been punted there by the lorry – and she drove into its roof! The physio is helping her clear her lungs, and that remains a priority to move to the next stage, i.e. outside Intensive Care. If progress with the lungs is good, then we may know more by the weekend. I am also adrift on the number of breakages – she has broken all 4 limbs! She expects to be called the limbless woman from now on, please!

She was being given her first solid food for a fortnight when I arrived, so I took over from the nurse, spoonfeeding apple compote!

Breakages apart, and they’ve all been fixed, of course, this is the old Deb!

I seem to recall that she was on the lookout for a renault dauphine in the fairly recent past..........

Just get a set of 5 point harnesses for it.

Really great to hear she's on the mend. I have a lightly soiled bum wiper I can send you Wink

Two Le Mans people; six broken limbs. It's nothing to shout about!  Sad

Glad she's back on planet earth!
