Soap my arse!
I have just been down to the workshop and got out the soldering iron and a new packet of Imperial Leather. All that happens is that the soap melts and smokes quite badly. And surely if it is mixed with hot water, then the inevitable will happen? The engine block will be clean as a whistle inside, but the rad will still leak.
Unless this is a special French soap, insoluble in water??? ;D ;D

To quote from my source (The ACO 1923-1982 book):

which basically translates as something like they were praying to the sky that their "solder" made of soap would hold watertight.
And it obviously did because they finished 2nd overall!!!
Presumably it was used more as a moulded bung rather than physically soldered!

I have just tried to have a shower using plumbers solder.
It just doesn't get the muck and dirt off as well as Imperial Leather though :'(

These drivers observed just one hour before the start that one of the tank has a crack.
Having not enough time to repair their used Marseilles' soap, work it and put it as a dome on this crack.
They runned all the race but needed a burin to take it off.

I remember someone saying they ran a mini in the 60's.
The radiator leaked and blew the head gasket in practice.So with no time for an engine change they put in an egg to fix the radiator and English mustard to seal the head gasket!
Anyone else have any odd remedies?

Emergency feeler guage: The cardboard from a No. 6 fag packed is 15 thousands of an inch. Do they still sell them anymore?
