The bloke (thanks for the lend of your bike if your reading) camping next door to me (not you Mark) was saying that the Tetre Rouge bar was getting knocked down to make way for a new tramline. Can anyone confirm this rumour because if its true, its sacrilege. Do they not have such things as listed buildings in France. Any comment on the truth of the rumour Gilles?

And where will we watch the footy next year? Even PM may be interested as looks like Wales are a dead cert to qualify.

Oh btw PM, looking at your crankshaft logo, I hope this is not indicative of the engineering tolerances used in your machine shop. It's as pissed as a parrot!

It will be  sad, sad day when they pull the Stella Bar down, this was only my second year , but it felt like a home from home. Sad Cry Angry Sad Cry Angry
But where is this tramline going ? Mulsanne village prehaps? Gilles or KPY do you have any more details? I surpose that if it goes in this direction the french version of the grey suited anti-fun nazis will shut it down on the weekend of the race 'for reasons of safety'.

Barry, how's it hangin mate, will miss the uneven floor in the out side area, made you feel sober when pissed, great shame it has to go. Gilles could you not get some local's together and form a demo on our behalf, burn some British, beef on the car park and set fire to some pallet boards, in France that always works, does it not.

A bit of info, but not much:

"Le Mans chooses the tram: The "Communaute Urbaine du Mans" voted 40 to nil for tramways on rails. (The opposition declined to vote). The project is for one route of 13,5km between "Universite Nord"and "Antares" with a branch to Sablons". The cost = approximately 1,3 milliards French Francs. The system is expected to open in 2003 or 2004."

...voted 40 to nil for tramways on rails.

I recon it would have been different if they asked us.

Prehaps we ought to get the British invoved here. If our politicians/experts in large rail engineering projects help ( channel rail link, cross rail etc) then the stella bar should be safe for at least another 10 years or even longer. Grin Grin Grin

No need to involve us Brits in this. They're doing a grand job on their own. Notice the projected opening dates 2003/2004 and they've not dug a hole yet! Even when they do get round to starting work, there's at least a 2-3 year lead time for trams, so, at a guess you're probably looking closer to 2007 (providing trams don't fall out of favour in the mean time!)
