1  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: 2014 CLASSIC - getting excited now... on: July 05, 2014, 12:31:57 pm
Hi.. Tony and Jock are at the Classic and will be Blogging and Twitting on a slightly random basis.. Le Grand Fromage is safely tucked up in sunny Chesterfield so we are in a bit of a technical wilderness so we apologise in advance for c*ck ups and errors.. but we will learn! If it is any consolation the weather today ( Saturday) is not good..

Tony and I will be there in a less formal capacity than 24hrs and we should have media access but we don't know how much we will be able to blog or tweet .. but keep and eye open .. The results are incomprehensible due to penalties etc .. but we will have a try ..

Small typo from Le Grand Fromage .. To save any confusion future "Brunches" are only August 10th and Oct 5th .. I went along as well as Tony and it was rather good, the weather was stunning and there was a brilliant turn out of cars and planes ( A Mustang did a couple of fast passes and landed.. not every day you see one of them close up!).

Dammit Wishy.. that is bad news.. we were starting to work through 400 beers and have so far conquered about twenty of the higher octane varieties , now you tell us there are 600. Ah well .. just have to try harder!

I have a strange dystopian vision of 24 hrs of near silence ( apart of course from the dulcet tones of an ageing Radio Le Mans Team!) and the clatter of at 56 generators because the entire grid would be electric/hydrogen/solar powered with a pit lane devoid of fossil fuels but now wired up to recharge batteries at any pit stop. Maybe the near silent cars would be allowed to use a recorded sound track from their favourite classic Le Mans car from the past . Dunlop will have lost the deal supplying marshals with fireproof overalls because presumably fuel fires would also be a thing of the past! Drivers could return to sports jackets and ties. The TV coverage would come via remote controlled drones covering the circuit and all the action ( action ?!) .Another innovation might be a system by which spectators would have an 'app' that would link directly to the team and cars and the more hits the car got the faster it would go. Each team would have to queue up three or four identical cars that would come into play at pit stops and driver changes.. new driver.. new charged up car .. and finally the ACO would achieve their aim of having cars that could only race at Le Mans. On a serious note FIA FormulaE is gathering pace ..

The CA team spent a bit of time with the Kangaroo lads and will pass on your observations.. I can't find their coverage map.. did they claim it would reach Tetre Rouge .. I think they did. AS you will see from blog we liked it ..
9  Club Arnage / Help / Re: Car registration documents on: June 08, 2006, 03:34:52 pm
If I remember rightly both times it was about 96 mph or 154 kph that earned me an on the spot fine of 60 Euros or maybe it was the equivalant of £60. Whatever ... it was not a hanging offence.
It gets more serious when you do the equivalent of over 100 mph like in UK. No demand for car docs just licence
10  Club Arnage / Help / Re: Legality of using B2 GPS detector in France on: June 07, 2006, 05:00:53 pm
I have always been led to believe that they take a very, very dim view of any sort of radar/speed detection device.. big fine and they destroy it there and then, even if it was turned off.. good idea to leave it at home I reckon.

Been stopped twice for what I originally assumed was not going fast enough and letting French Cars overtake me but turned out to be that UK number plate gave me away!! Always been asked for driving licence, but to date never been asked for car documents etc. Last time I think it was around 60 Euros, cash on the spot.

12  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Speed Cameras en Route on: June 03, 2006, 05:10:14 pm
Rather surprised to come upon a Speed camera plus police, tripod etc set up at approach to the first Peage outside Calais. Also despite chatting to The Grande Fromage about it as we arrived in Rouen I still managed to get a flash on the way into the first tunnel . I think they got my better side so I have signed a model release. There are at least two more cameras on the new stretch of the A28 between Rouen and Alencon. Take care and have a safe journey.
