Hi Smokie

Depends on which part of Berkshire you are in.

Tell me what are the symptoms so I can diagnose .

If you are reasonably practical then I could send the parts to you at trade and you can fit them

Oddlt enough it seems to have cured itself...at least temporarily

It's a Diplomat (yes, cheap MFI) built-in gas hob. Two weeks ago it was clicking the igniters all on it's own, about once a minute. But only two (left front and right rear) were actually making a spark. Bloody irritating noise.

After a day or so it stopped clicking on it's own. But still only two were sparking. So I gave it a good wash, removed all the baked in foodstuffs, no difference.

Then, magically, after a few more days it's all OK again...

Any idea?

Well Smokie.

The most likely cause of the  ignition system working on its own is................. if a pan has boiled over, the liquid flows down into the internals and earths out the ignition system....when it finally dries out it should be ok.

I dunno about Bodgit & Scarper Robbo.........but you are right .....in most cases a large Birmingham screwdriver will suffice for any job.

But if all fails.....sell the customer a quality replacement  Grin

I've always known this tool as a Manchester Micrometer - does it have the same effect ?

Wishy, you could have charged him trade price ( or should that be Face Value) for that nugget of information and just told him his spark regulator had gone. Obviously didn't go to the same appliance repair schools as the robbing bar stewards  around here. We could start a little repair thread and pool everyones knowledge and fix everyones little problems. (I really should go and plumb in the dish washer thats been standing in the kitchen for 3 years now).

Well Stu ......Helping Smokie is what I would call customer service.....which in this day and age seems to be vanishing at an alarming rate!.

At the end of the day Smokie is a fair distance away......and......some time in the not too distant(June 2004)future,I hope to meet you guys without any repercussions regarding my "technical skills".and of couse a beer or three Grin

I will give anybody advice, because as they say "information is free, labour costs".

How do you make an old Renault Espace go fast around a test track then? Wink

Seriously - Wishy gives sound advice on the white goods front as I have experienced several times and expects nothing in return - well no more than to share a beer or three.

So - the washing machine clinic will be held outside the Champagne Bar at 9:15pm on Saturday 12th June 2004.
