Title: Re:Something for the weekend Post by: Mr. Rick on September 29, 2003, 10:47:37 pm To take this one off at a rather wild tangent, this was taken shortly before I proposed to Mrs. R (although of course she wasn't known as that then!). We'd been at Silverstone for the "pre-Lemons" traditional in May and we'd recently been discussing the inevitable.
I suggested that if a Jaguar won the race (they were running 1 and 2 at the time I think near the end of the race!!), that we should do the deed. Sanity briefly grabbed a hold as to the inevitability of the result, so a sterner test was sought. I hit upon the idea that a Jag had to do the business at Le Mans. And the rest, as they say, is history! I proposed on bended knee from a phone box in Paris that evening, wearing nowt else but my Union Flag boxers and a "wicked willie" t-shirt. I disturbed her from doing the ironing at home with her parents!!! Needless to say I constantly impress her friends with this tale! And some say that romance is dead? The official deed took place 2 years later just after the 1990 Le Mans, which was the missus' first LM visit. Of course, it was indeed a sign when the boys did it again that year too!!
