We've got a pair of 2-way radio's which we use to communicate between cars etc. They use a frequency set aside for "PMR446" (Personal Mobile Radio) I think it's 446MHz and is licence exempt in the UK.
Anyone know if I can use them in France without a licence?

Yep they're OK, so I understand. May not be usable in the States though.

Lads,
Two way radios don't need a base station. You can use them any where, providing they are a 'pair'.
I doubt whether the French Radio Police will be on duty next weekend.

We've been using them over the past few years. (About £60 from Dixons - the motorola ones are far more expensive and use exactly the same electronics). Range is reasonable on the autoroutes (1-2 miles) but once in built up areas becomes 500yds or so. Very good to keep a convoy together

Yea it will be OK, you can link up a number of radio's, no problem

I have a pair of Cobra units, classed as Personal communicators.

That means everyone on this site should get one and set the channel to 6-30, and our own Club Arnage radio site

I've been advised by someone "in the know" that the radio signals of the teams wil be scrambled/encrypted so even if you have a scanner and it picks something up, you are likely to only get 10/15 secnds or so before you lose it again.

I'm not going to bother!!
