Title: WEC Silverstone
Post by: termietermite on July 11, 2012, 08:01:48 pm
Anybody going?  Does everybody still stay at Whittlebury or on the track campsite they're offering?

I'm thinking I might go. I went last year Fri pm to Sunday , enjoyed it loads and stayed on the Silverstone's Woodlands site.   It has nice showers and a bar (with burger chips type food ) for the evening and was doing bacon rolls etc for brekkie.

I am still dithering between Britcar 24 and WEC.   They must have changed the WEC date this year because I am usually away when its on!

I'm not sure. Every year I say yes, but don't go.
I like the race and the craic but I can't stand Silverstone. I wish they would move it to Donnington. The ELMS race a few years back was superb.

Donnington LMES this weekend - just looked at the entry list surely if the grid is only 13 cars within 5 classes then it is time to cancel?

There are nine protos on the grid who should make a race of it, plus a lone FLM. The GT grid is the thinnest with one Pro and Two Am. No LM P1 class in ELMS, however there is an (empty so far) FIA GT3 class from Doni' onwards (if there ever is an onwards).

Thanks, Mr Cheese.  Sadly it's a number I can't dial cheaply from here.  Will get Paul to have a go.

Thanks sceetum - I will certainly call upon you if necessary - all depends upon whether or not Paul is coming.  I have invested in a new pop-up tent which, unlike the Quecha ones, you don't have to be a gymnast to pack up again so it should be fairly simple to do.  Here's hoping. :)

Oh great the two Irish teams are now running under the Ivory Coast Flag  ???
Well done FIA WEC, I know the French aren't too happy with our financial affairs here lately but we are not at that level "Yet"

And is Tor Graves really British (I thought he was Thai?)

Nice entry though - apart from the sad lack of Porkers in GT - and it still looks thin after the 60+ who turned up in Belgium at the weekend.  Once again, P2 looks to be where all the action is.

On the subject of the Irish.... The very best of luck to Murphy Prototypes. Taken a real shine to the team at Le Mans. Brendon Hartley sure is one hell of a superstar in the making.

Yes, Brendon Hartley is a star in the making... but he does look about 12 years old and in need of a haircut. :-)

I hope the weather forecast improves in the next few days.

Friday daytime shows showers, Friday night/Saturday morning light rain, Saturday daytime heavy rain showers, Saturday night/ Sunday morning moderate rain and Sunday daytime rain showers.

All about 18/19 deg C.

Feels like LM 2012 all over again  >:(

Loved the race as always - and really impressed with Silverstone these days. Only comment - why were so many of the grandstands closed? - health and safety I dare say - at a motor race!!! Bonkers. Having met up with other members of team Monkey we headed - on my recommendation - over to the large stand between Maggots and Chapel (quite a schlep) only to find it - like so many others was locked up. I spent a very happy hour there last year, it’s a fantastic view from there. So that was really disappointing.

But overall great day out.

It was a shame some grandstands were shut, had a great time last year and the views were excellent. The official fia wec site said there were 35,000 people there sunday, i must have missed most of them!!!

Not so much 'elf n safety, but means employing a steward/G4S security person to ensure safety in the stand. Personally, I say leave them open, as people are sensible, but sadly the law doesn't recognise sense
