How do search engines like Google pick things up??

I was just 'doodling', and entered 'Delboy' into Google, and after a couple of pages about Delboy Trotter, there was this:

I tried a couple of other names (nopanic, Rick Cutler) and they also have an 'entry'. Also tried Smokie as well but got thousands of pages about some singer, and more thousands about Arbroath Smokies - could all be the same person I suppose   Grin

as far as i understand google takes 'snapshots' of as many webpages as it possibly can. these snapshots are saved in the link below each result under 'cache'.
