Title: Hello from Plymouth...
Post by: PAFC OK on August 11, 2009, 12:19:59 pm
Hi all, another long time watcher just joined. Been to Le Mans only twice so far, missed this year due to circumstances way beyond my control but have 'reserved' places for me and her for next year already. Going down with the Evo magazine deal, looks good, anybody been down on one of these before?

Hope to become an active member of the CA crew.

Thanks for having me.

An active member? The only activity you will see from most CAer's is pouring beer down our necks, but welcome anyway.

Hi

What Catchpole said really.

DIY camping is so much more rewarding, and not nearly as daunting as you might think. (Although I wouldn't really know, never having done a package)

Many thanks for the replies and the welcomes, appreciated.

Beer drinking? I like it and consider myself at 'keen amateur' status at least, conditions permitting.

As for the camping, well, we have done it, Beausejour last time, and whilst it certainly has its attractions the Evo package takes some of the rough edges off and makes a week in a damp French field far more acceptable to the missus, who invariably accompanies me on such jaunts. I was / am worried about circuit access during the race but a bit of walking is all part of the fun I think, hopefully the improved access to other elements of race week will more than make up for a bit of access awkwardness at the circuit. A good chance to catch 40 winks on the shuttle bus too, and, hopefully, a chance to collar some of the Evo guys at the chateau and hear some of their stories.

And the CA LM Guide? Legendary, a part of the whole event as far as I am concerned.

Well, got my substantial deposit down for next years race yesterday, staying (in a tent) in the grounds of a different chateau to the one we were expecting to stay at but hey, when you opt for the 'executive' package the bells and whistles are all nice shiney ones! One of the bells and whistles I'm most looking forward to is a Friday morning tour of the circuit and pit lane, should be interesting. Oh, and the pre race banquet, the wine tasting, the post race hog-roast, the real showers and toilets, I'll be thinking of you guys.

Going across on the 9th, 22:45 Pompey to Caen, back on the 14th, 23:00 Roscoff to Plymouth. Anybody else aboard?

Just waiting for the 2010 CA LM Guide now, and when can I get some t-shirts? Hope to cut a dash amongst the 'classic' set at the chateau, might just get the wifes a size or two smaller than is ideal!  8)

And the icing on yesterdays cake? Four lovely new Potenzas on my baby.  ;D

There was a hog roast on Bleu Nord this year on Sunday afternoon at the SPS encampment.

......it all seems very familiar to a normal LM ....

Neither of those sound anything like my experience of LM over the years!!

I've seen some strange things in the supermarkets, but never a complete hog

Just to add that a tour of the circuit may NOT be on the cards.

I was trying to do just that for some newbies I had with me this year, but the section from Mulsanne corner to the Porsche curves was closed off by les Flics (late) friday morning this year.

I was doing a drive down mulsanne and all the way down to the porche curves early friday morning this year. As a couple of my mates wanted to do the same we tried again at app. 10.30 and they was just closing the road from Mulsanne to Porche.  :police: We was allowed to walk all the way but no cars.
It is a realy nice thing to try, suddenly you realise just how long the mulsanne straight is, and just how tight some of the corners is. (it is not so fun i a minibus like oures).

Looks forward to do the same trip this year,

Kenn :)

The Great British Welcome is on my list of must do's, if not 2010 then 2011, it depends on the timings of the aforementioned offerings really. I understand that the package tour of the circuit and pits is officially sanctioned so hopefully will give me a bit more than the usual walkabout and nosey. The things we'll do for an Audi baseball cap!  ::)

I think you'll find that Phil and the SPS crew had nothing to do with the Pork Roast on Bleu Nord on Sunday but it was in fact Robbo from Wokingham and his group??

Although we at Team JPC were very grateful of the SPS Crew for the petrol on Sunday, and still have the 5L container in safe keeping!! :-)

Aha, a fellow Plymothian in these parts. Pull up a chair, good sir, and welcome.

I'm from Plymouth as well, heading for Le Mans 2010 (my eighth visit since my first in 1999 (well done BMW that year and congrats to Peter Dumbreck for his impromptu aerobatics, degree of difficulty for that manouvre is the full five stars).

I'll be heading over on the 0800 sailing from Plymouth on the Tuesday and should be heading back on the 0830 sailing from Roscoff the Monday after the race.
