That's not paradise - paradise is when the gendarmes go on strike too......but I guess that is not a possibility

Gilles - Personally, I don't need one, but I'd just like to say what a fantastic job you are doing as the unofficial Le Mans tourist board - keep up the good work!

Is this where we've been going wrong all along by just shouting louder in English ?
2465  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Can I be the first? on: June 02, 2003, 10:06:39 pm
OK, but "Maison Blanche" sounds better than "White House" - wot's "Drunken Bastards" in french? Huh
2466  Club Arnage / Help / Re:Radio Scanners at Le Mans? on: June 02, 2003, 01:57:47 pm
Didn't hear it personally, but I understand that the communication picked up on a scanner of Derek Bell telling his pit that his Harrod's McLaren had packed up was really choice, particularly in terms of what he had to say about McLaren gearboxes and Ron Dennis, and then Derek was such a gentleman about it when talking publicly on Radio Le Mans about 10 minutes later!   Presume on that basis that scanners will work there.

No CD, no cassette, no radio - just the engine, induction and exhaust to harmonise and play tunes with.   But if I did, then it would probably be a mix of Blues Brothers, Queen, U2 etc

You're right - aside from the distribution of free condoms around the campsites, I had forgotten how good the commentary was that year!    (Says he, wistfully remembering the time you could still pitch up at the circuit on the Thurday and buy a ticket for Houx at the campsite gate.......)
2469  Club Arnage / Just To Say Hi / Re:The Boys with the Goodyear Blimp on: June 01, 2003, 10:17:58 am
We had happily been sitting in a restaurant in Mulsanne that evening, watching the thunder/lightning over to the north of the circuit.   It hadn't rained in Mulsanne, but as we drove back to HA it became pretty apparent that it had been there - first sight was about 4 or 5 fire engines on the road around HA; first thought was that someone had been doing daft things with fire - that was until we saw the Porsche 911 in the middle of the swimming pool that had appeared near the bar........

Karting Nord is far drier when it rains than Houx Annexe - anyone remember the '95 race with a Porsche 911 in Houx Annexe, near the bar, with water lapping over the doors through the open windows after the thunderstorms on the Friday night?
2471  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Radio LM on: May 31, 2003, 10:25:40 pm
Leave out the Chrysler or Castrol ads - if you had to broadcast and listen to the "Radio Le Mans courtesy of Jiffy condoms" adverts a few years ago you'd probably blag the stuff too!
2472  Club Arnage / Help / Re:Question about the Friday night? on: May 31, 2003, 10:15:10 pm
Jon - not aware of any other parades on the Friday night other than the driver's parade in Le Mans town centre on the Friday evening - that in itself is good for a laugh and a number of beers, whether you're driving in it or watching it.

Neil - glad it wasn't serious - I enjoy Le Mans and all that goes with it as much as the next bloke, but that just touched a nerve, as you might have gathered from my post.    All the best,

Mark

Sorry to do the captain sensible bit - I love the vertical firework battles as much as the next guy (even at 3am) but can you advise us all exactly where you are going to be loacted?   That way we can make sure we are miles away when you decide to launch rockets horizontally.  The prospect of horizontal fireworks in the midst of pi**ed/sleeping crowds cocooned in nylon tents and nylon sleeping bags, surrounded by cars and fuel is not an entertaining one.   Not being a killjoy - just have had first-hand experience of dealing with the results of such accidents and 1) Nylon burns bloody quickly, melts and sticks to skin 2) Individual in tent in sleeping bag will not survive  3) The results are not pretty.   Nuff said.

I suppose Bolton had to have something going for it......can't you get free tickets under a twinning scam?
