31  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Shortcut from Houx Entrance to Ford chicane on: November 21, 2022, 12:02:22 am
Due to change of campsite (RIP MB) I got well lost this year, trying to get to the Ford Chicane grandstand.  It took over an hour.

Is there a way through from the entrance at Houx to the tunnel by the Control tower.  I'm sure there used to be, but I couldn't find the old bridge over the Bugatti circuit
32  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: 2023 Tickets on: November 20, 2022, 11:51:19 pm
Its suggested on Pistonheads that many ticket agencies havent sold any packages yet as they dont know their allocation.  This would suggest there might be some returns in due course
I've heard that one of the agents has a waiting list, and another is sold out.  And they don't necessarily get what they ask for, and sometimes its the same as last year

We were all stopped at the Houx entrance, so we had latecomers as they drank what they had.

This is really mean as at my age, it takes nearly an hour to walk to the stands, and an hour back, so it would be nice to be allowed some refreshment.

It was better on the television anyway

After 34 straight years from 1986 to 2019, I missed 2020.....
Me too, what a coincidence.  I remember your website years ago - didn't realise it was still going

Bit of a long shot, maybe, but..........

Anyone have info. on queuing times, at either Newhaven (to get on) and Dieppe (to get off)?

I've tried asking the ferry co but their responses either refer to Dover - which is no f*@7ing use, or the standard wording on their website and to 'allow extra time'  Roll Eyes
Its not like Dover.  As its a small operation, they're a bit laid back.  It may have all changed in the last couple of years, but I don't think they unlock the gates at Newhaven till an hour before sailing.  There's a fair bit of freight to get on, and it must slow down when really busy. Unloading is pretty quick as its a smallish boat, but the upstairs may take a bit longer, and then you're straight on the bypass.

But with Brexit, you'll all be body cavity searched for British sausage Wink

I believe that Andy Blackmoor stopped doing his excellent spotters guide due to a lack of cooperation from the ACO.
Regrettable loss.
What a shame.  And it need photos from the practice day, which is too late now.

I'll cope, because I'm never quite sure what's happening.  I buy a program every year, but most are still in the wrappers because of the guides, so they're more valuable now  Grin

Lorry - that reminds me of the many times my mate Mark and I set off from Maison Blanche to visit the museum in the days before the action. Every time we went to do it there was always some distraction (often the Liverpool Boys, but there were others) that conspired to prevent our mission. We never made it, despite trying.

26 years, I have been trying to get to that bleeding Museum!
For me its only 36 years Shocked

Before long, the campsites will be SO FAR out, we might be better off staying in the municipale in Spay!  Grin Grin Grin
Pre covid, 3 of our group had trouble walking from Maison Blanche to the grandstands.  2 aren't coming this year and we now have a 2km walk now, which when busy will take an hour.  Might have to stop at a bar half way Grin

Is Canada Dry Covid free?  Has anyone warned Phil about Monkeypox?

I've just noticed Bob U's comment

"There is a corner of a foreign field that will be forever England ------ Houx Annexe. And the bastards have built on it."

Maison Blanche is now lost - lets face it, they've built on everything!

There were some badges a few years back.  I think I've a spare one if you're desperate

.....P&O is a proper cluster feck. I've spent the last few weeks trying to get clarity on if my Hull - Rotterdam would be running next week. As I am on the Pride of Hull it ran for a night then they pulled it........... So finally they have said I can have a refund. No refunds through covid just credits, go to use credit and now getting a refund and have a nice long drive to Germany yay  Undecided
Strangely the sister ship, Pride of Rotterdam is still running.  It's Dutch owned but "managed" by P&O.

Does anyone travel regularly on the ferries between the UK and France?  Do you get strip searched for bacon!

In the year of Foot and Mouth, they couldn't be bothered, but my caravan was searched for illegal immigrants in recent years, and it carries a normal quantity of essentials, beer, wine and bacon.

Secondly, with a quarter of the population of the UK and France having Covid, will the tribunes become a Petri dish.  Should I buy a Hazmat suit now?

Finally - P&O, what a mess
43  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: New date for the race? on: March 20, 2021, 05:59:29 pm
The Caravan Club is strangely quiet about CPDs, which sound like a TIR Carnet.

Because nobody has taken a camping trailer to France post Brexit, nobody'd sure.  Most EU countries register trailers separately, so for Green Cards Aviva say "If you’re travelling with a trailer, you’ll need to register any commercial trailer weighing over 750kg before towing them abroad. All trailers (personal and commercial) weighing over 3,500kg must be registered. You’ll also need to get a Green Card for separately registered trailers."

To cut a long story short, I don't think the French are bothered about non commercial trailers, but I wouldn't want to be the first.

And you've got months to find the answer!

It isn't looking good for them is it, or the Germans, who now realise there isn't enough vaccine.  We're down to No 7 in the mortality rate.

I'm puzzled.  Its as if they thought they buy shedloads of vaccine on Amazon Prime, when the stuff seems to be a devil of a job to make.

On a lighter note, I bet the Gendarmerie won't like this

45  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: New date for the race? on: March 11, 2021, 11:59:13 pm
Can't comment on the commercial aspect, but that's exactly my understanding of the rules regarding the caravan you'd take on holiday to France.
Yes, me too.

I've read somewhere that you should take the cars log book (V5C?).  I do occasionally, but now we're not in their VAT club etc, they may be looking to check, as a permanent import must be subject to tax, and this is a problem at the Irish border
