Two pieces of advice...
1: Get there early (as soon as the gates open) to actually be able to see the cars before the hoards of people arrive. 2: Stand down at the start for a bit. Actually - if they still do the passout hand stamps get one and go out the gate down there so you can see the cars pre start. Someone still in the UK should be able to confirm if this is still an option.
Oh, and avoid the F1 paddock once the drivers arrive. It's bloody bedlam and you're likely to get knocked over by a heard of chavs running after a driver like they've never seen another living breathing human being before.
As Brad says, the only sad thing about it is that so many people go these days. Still worth doing though.

Club Arnage / Help / Buying a French Car
|

i'm not talking popping down to your local renault dealer here, rather popping across the Channel and buying a car in France.
I have some friends who run a chalet over the ski season and who currently need a new car to be their workhorse over the winter. I'm sure there are people here who have experience of buying cars in France... so are there any pitfalls to be aware of, issues with registration / insurance, etc. etc. etc.?
I'm guessing they'll go for used rather than new so any info will be much appreciated.
Cheers Dx

Made me think again about the Australia trip I'd love to do in a few years. Start at the F1 race in Signapore and then head on down under for the Bathurst 1000 & Surfer's Paradise. Afterwards road trip through Australia for 2 months should do it to see most of it I hope.
Sounds like a great trip. Let me know when you do it and I'll meet you at Mt Panorama. Dx

I don't know how many of you in the Northern Hemisphere managed to stay awake through to the end, but let me tell you (in case you were in the land of nod)... It was brilliant! 0.3seconds between 1st and 2nd, with the 3rd placed car storming up through the field. It's not often I get excited about V8's but this year's race was pretty bloody good. Dx

Incidentally, in the expression Hooray and up she rises, does anyone know what is it exactly that rises up?
Given the song is (allegedly) about male impotence I'm sure can work that out for yourself. Dx

I shall be home practicing my forklift moves as I have the test for my license on Tuesday.
It's not often that time zones work in my favour, however it shall be 8pm at night down here - a fine time to stop what I'm doing, get online, and raise a pint to Deb.

An amazing woman, who shall be missed by CA and the wider racing community. She was so full of life, was so passionate about the sport we all love, and had a wonderful sense of humour.
Her knowledge of the sport often left me feeling like a bit of an amoeba, but I loved to chat with her. I just wish I'd done it more often.
Rest in Peace Deb.

Every time I read these words I wince. ... quadriceps tore off completely.
So I am very pleased to read your latest update. Stick at the exercises the physio gives you - especially when you think you don't need to do them anymore. Good luck with the rehab. Dx

If you want Spirits....well....do you know what - i'm not going to tell you about that - go to Total Wine and more, and see for yourself. Oh and budget a couple of hours to do so....it's fair to say there's some decisions to be made in there I'm fairly sure we didn't spend that long making decisions on spirits. IIRC the conversation went somerthing like this... Brad: "Doris, do you want to go halves with me in a 2 litre bottle of Jagermeister?" Me: "How much?" Brad: "$20" Me: opened wallet and handed over money Brad is right though. As a bottle shop it has everything you could possibly want, and if you're prone to wandering about looking at what is on offer then you'll definitely need more then 10 minutes. It's got a great selection of everything. Dx
