Title: 1000 km Nürburgring - Who'll be there?
Post by: Werner on August 22, 2005, 03:01:03 pm
We're planning a day trip to the 1000 km at the Nürburgring, any other CA Members plan the same?

Just found a provisional entry list at http://www.gt-eins.de/Berichte2005/LMES/1000kNring/ringentry.html

Cheers

Werner

Yup, Rick and I have a plan.

Can anyone (hgb?) advise on low cost accomodation in the immediate area, particularly for Friday night. I'm assuming you'll all be camping on the Saturday?

Smokie,

check this site out. There is a wealth of info on Ben's site, but I've pasted the link to the accomodation page for the convenience of CA'ers

I can vouch for Sliders Guest House. It is more geared towards bikes and bikers, but anyone will be warmly welcomed.

I'm planning to visit the ring for '07

I'm limiting myself to 2 "outings" a year and the 2nd is going to be Spa next year.

The ring website mentioned earlier is superb and I'll be booking a ride in the ring taxi (with Sabine)!

Where and when do we meet ?

I have no suggestion yet. Me and a bunch of friends from the lemanszone.de team will come for raceday only and arrive at app. 10:00 am at the track. What about meeting at the ACO truck?

OK girls and boys - all the 'ring info you need is here.
It covers everything from rules and regs, directions and routes, prices, insurance advice blah, blah, blah.

http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/

Should answer any question you may have.

Won't be able to make the 1000k though, too many stag do's, motor sport trips etc away already this year.
Hope that you all have loads of fun.

We (Drinking for Holland) will be there, about 10 -12 people. Arriving Saturday morning, leaving again after the race. Have got a plan to build up camp in one of the campings, any advice on that?

We will use a larger part of the grandstand again, I'd like to repeat the Silverstone-trick - have the flag across from Racing for Holland :)

hgb - we don't really jhave much of a plan at all yet. I was going to try some of those guesthouses in the link higher up but I bet they will all be full now... That's tomorrow's work.

Which is the camping you use and how do I book that?

Do we need to pre-book tickets or are they the same price on the door?

Regarding the stag do's etc - the mrs tells me this is my seventh holiday this year, and she's only been on two of them! :)

Holiday Schmoliday! A weekend at the Ring does not count as a holiday Smokie! It's just a short break and there is a world of difference. I went to Silverstone and it was NOT a holiday in any sense of the word as I understand it to mean. Anyway, you didn't come to Silverstone, so to my mind, you are honour bound to go to the Ring. Oh, and I might need you to take something over for Paddy too, following a tactical blunder at Silverstone, so we might have to meet up before you set off.

I've never been to a race for cheer pleasure. It's always been long drives, lack of sleep and marching far distances through blazing heat and hail storms. However, someone has to do it. Tell that your wife and it'll be alright.  ;D

You don't need to book tickets in advance. They are available at the gate, both tickets for camping and the race. I wont stay at the circuit overnight next weekend. It's an one hour drive to the nearest bed for me.

Paddy, as for camping grounds there's one at Müllenbach which is at the F1 curcuit. The details are:

Camping am Nürburgring
D - 53520 Müllenbach
+49 (2692) 224
+49 (2692) 10 20
rezeption@camping-am-nuerburgring.de

Also, there's the camping Stahlhütte which is about 15 minutes from the circuit if you like a drive through the Eifel. Details for this one are:
Camping Stahlhütte
An der B 258
53533 Dorsel / Ahr
Bundesland:
Rheinland-Pfalz
Telefon: 02693 / 438

Okay hgb, thanks for that :)

Had a look at that site before, and have to admit I clicked it away because it's one of the worst looking sites I've ever come across. No clear routing, one giant mess of 'nice piccies' on the front page.
But guess it will be the best option, being this late :)

Hmmmmm. OK, some info needed.

Paddy, how long do you think it will take to drive to The Nurburgring from Utrecht or Rotterdam?? There's a good chance I may be going to Nieuwergen on Thursday next week so may try to wangle a diversion on the way home!!

Probably stay in The Netherlands Thursday night then head to The Ring and leave straight after the race.

Not positive yet, but it's looking good!

I am still trying to get the leave confirmed. I will need Friday and Thursday off next week. It is the busiest time De Beers have ever had. Some 6.5million carats to be sorted in 8 days!! Friday being the last of them all.

But at the moment I am probably going home with the flu!!! Bugger it is not in a weeks time. NO COMMENTS PLEASE!!

Mark, if you're in Holland by then you can simply drive along with us, no problem! We'll be leaving Saturday morning early to arrive in time for the free practise of 10.25. Should be about a 3,5 hour drive from Rotterdam or Nieuwegein, same mileage.
We'll sleep at the camping site in the large Gazebo, and leave straight after the race. Let's keep in touch!

Smokie; we as DfH are debating what to do at the moment, aparently some would like to stay the night in Aachen - I don't. I don't want to wake up Sunday at nine having to drive an hour to the circuit. So we might split the group, and me probably some more will stay at the camping circuit hgb has pointed out. Also more fair to JPChenet, he'll want to see the race too, not drive all the way to stay in some hotel at Toyota Allee...

Will let know how it ends, I'll be staying at the camping site for sure!

No fun going to a hotel anyways if you are to return to the circuit in the early morning again.

I've mailed the campsite to book for Saturday, also asked hgb to call them as I have had no reply. So I will be there too, with a mate who has never been racing before.

Apparently there's a bar with Veltins beer from the tap on the campsite and they have music during the 1000km weekend.

Also on the campsite is a Mini-Meeting, as they're doing the Brands Hatch to Nürburgring Run.

Prices are:
€ 10 per person per day.

Electricity:
Connection € 3 once
Use of power € 2 per day

Arrival on Friday night will be counted as 1 day.
So friday night arrival and sunday night departure = 3 days.

The fourth thing being...whether there is space in the car! Would also need to sort hotel bookings etc as these are all now done for John and I.

Car failed it's MOT yesterday (bulging tyre) - retest happening Wed... Two tyres = £200+. Also recommended 4 way laser tracking.

I can tell it's gonna be an expensive week....  :-\

OK, will see some of you there. Should arrive by lunchtime Saturday (campsite first) - will of course be wearing my CA t shirt.

Weather forecast is looking cooler but still dry...  8)

Just going to pack - leave tomorrow afternoon. Before I do - does anyone have a list of runners and riders?
Smokie, you're going to be on the Camping am Nuerburgring as well right? I'll drive there with Paddy so i'll bring an extra set of entry lists.

It was a great weekend, but very short. Met Smokie and friend, all Dutchies got very drunk last night.
We had a small camp this time, and the flag was on one of the grandstands all day. Very nice to see Bleekemolen share his joy for second place in the GT2 with the Spyker with us, he basicaly stopped to cheer :)

Photo's included of the flag, Smokie should be in the back there somewhere.

Indeed, it was a good race with the best Nuerburgring weather I have seen in ages. I'm red like a lobster  ;D

Hell, Mr. Shimoda must have been pi**ed to drive like that, very well done. Also congratulations to Oreca for second and Creation for third. Rollcentre's no 8 car finished in 5th and the other in 33rd position. 18 is not their lucky number this year. JPRacing were struck by tyre problems again. The first burst tyre nearly blew the car in half. The second one send them deep into the gravel.

It was good to see some familiar faces although it was only very swiftly.

Now the dire 8 months start again...  :-\

What an exciting race, the Shimado performance was unbelievable. Had a lot of fun, met hgb and a couple of others, but my radius was a little limited as I had my 10 year old son with me.
Let's hope for a similiar exciting end of season in Istanbul

Cheers

Werner

It was nice to see you too, hgb! (even though I was asleep with fingers in my ears ;))

Speaking about the eight-month wait, when can we expect the '06 calender?

Do you reserve your own stand?

It was a very good race on the tele.  Now that the Audis have been handicapped out, it all seems more interesting, a race even, plus the private Aston won GT1, a Belgian Lola LMP2, and the Spyker Squadron made second step on GT2.  But I just couldn't stay awake for the ALMS at Mosport as well (sorry Phil - what happened?)

But I just couldn't stay awake for the ALMS at Mosport as well (sorry Phil - what happened?)

I tried to watch it, but they had lost the connection earlier on, and were showing a repeat of the LMES at 'Ring.

Caught the last half hour or so -

P1 - Lola (Leitzinger), Audi (Biela,Pirro), Audi, Lola.  Only a few secs between 1 & 2
GT1 - 'Vette, 'Vette, Saleen - again, only a few seconds covered these three.
GT2 - Porsche etc etc.  Panoz crapped out on penultimate lap - don't know why.

Can't remember all the drivers or P2 positions - it was rather early in the morning, and I've probably got some of these wrong!.

I'm sure Phil will add more detail.

I'm back, safe and sound. What a hectic weekend!

My mate John and I left UK on Friday afternoon and headed for Leuven for Friday night. Leuven is best known for being the home of Stella, but it is a very lively university town. There is a main square which is surrounded on each side with bars, which just get busier and busier through the evening with students (and others!). I asked one barman what time they close, he said whenever the last customer leaves, often about 6 am on a Sunday. We didn't last quite that long. I'd recommend Leuven as a stopover.

Went shopping for supplies Saturday morning then headed for Nurburgring - arrived much later than planned due to navigator error. HGB met us outside, and came with us in my car down to the campsite. As they would not let him on site he waited for ages while we put the tent up before he could get a lift back. We spent a little time at the track in the early evening, meeting Paddy and the DfH guys (what a great crowd they are...) then after dinner (canned stroganoff and bread...) went drinking in the campsite bar. The campsite is highly recommended too - go as far through it as you can, then it is a 5 minute walk into the track, down by the west end (whatever that's called).

Due to circumstances beyond my control (mainly to do with my legs and head) we were a bit late getting going on Sunday but managed to get to the driver signing session and I had my CA t shirt re-signed by Mr McNish ( Mrs S had washed out his one from Sebring). We'd omtted to listen to HGB when he was saying where the 10 am meet was, and my phone had run out of battery (new phone, no charger)so I didn't pick up the message - sorry we missed ya Werner & hgb!

We went back to the west end of the track to watch racing, and I saw more racing than I have watched almost anywhere else. My mate John was keener than I though he'd be, and that end of the track is great spectating.

Some of the DfH guys had done the Norsdchleif on Saturday, so John and I tried it on Sunday during the race. Although it was shut when we got there due to a recovery (including ambulance  :-\) it re-opened on about half and hour. We let the queue die down before going on. Once again I was cautious, I find myself spending a lot of time watching my mirrors as there are some absolute lunatics out there. Suffice to say that only maybe 30 cars had gone out before us, and we came   across three accidents on the track during our lap - didn't help my lap time! None looked too serious, but there was an Audi TT which probably would never recover... I also got some good snaps of Sabine and the RingTaxi.

Went back to watch the end of the race, very close and exciting finish. Then broke camp and we headed to Frankfurt where I wanted to get to Walmart to buy a fridge which I'd seen on offer 5 weeks ago. Spent the evening drinking Guiness in an Irish pub, till v late.

I bought the the fridge (didn't realise it's only a "cooler" till I just unpacked it, but it should be OK). On the autobahn we were having a great journey until we were about 15 cars behind a multi vehicle pileup, including a lorry, which shut the motorway and delayed us for two hours. There must have been nearly 20 emergency vehicles, plus helicopter, wreck trucks and road works vehicles.

Anyway, the Nurburgring is yet another fantastic venue with great viewing. Recommended!!
