Phil Keen walked away after the saturday of Monza LMS round,  saying that he didn't feel comfortable in the car, so this is pretty much old news!

Shorty sending Keen snr a large bill for damage probably hasn't helped either.....

Still Shorty wanted that LM Podium,  lets hope the diesel class race each other too hard hard and all pack up!

Nice set of photos, though I'd question the description against the 'Pit Straight 1970' (17 pics from the end).  'No Garages'.....WTF.  They may have been smaller than todays, but there were still 55 garages!!

I don't think they had garages as such, in that they weren't for putting the cars in, only crew and spares.  Cars were worked on in the pit lane, which was just a white line away from the race track!
663  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: David Piper back at Le mans on: May 24, 2007, 10:33:26 pm
We had the good fortune to meet David and Liz Piper at a hotel opening in Oxford 18 months ago,  they both have some great stories to tell!
Good to see both him and his car back at Le Mans,  hopefully for a safe run!

See you there in August then for the ALMS race.  Any tips on the track (where to watch from etc) would be welcome!

If they go to Chartre tell them to visit the cathedral to take a look at the stained glass windows. Absolutely amazing.

I think you are thinking of Chartres, which is 60 miles east'ish towards Paris.

As opposed to La Chartre-sur-le-Loir  which is where the Hotel de France is, which is where AM were based during the David Brown years.

Which is why jjkt15 suggested it, without mentioning the Aston link,  so it would be a nice surprise for the girls when they got there..........

Someone doesn't know their LM history.....
668  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: This bunch of pratts give motorsport a very bad name on: May 04, 2007, 01:57:05 pm
Here's a question that'll upset a few people....

So, whats the difference between a scumballer doing well in excess of 100mph, and someone going to LM doing well in excess of 100mph down the peage?HuhHuh

I know the scumballers are likely to be doing some dodgy driving too but....

I'm not one of those green people, (etc) who are against speeding, how could i be with a TVR and an Aston, but bragging about excessive speeds on a foreign motorway just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid.

Or have I missed the point.....
669  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: So who is driving what this year? on: April 26, 2007, 02:06:30 pm

My trusty Aston V8 will be making yet another trip!  All 3 classics and this will be it's 3rd 24hrs,  it has to support it's young upstart cousins!

I've signed up.

I don't own a car under 10 years old, so I'd be stuffed!
671  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Radio Le Mans 2007 on: April 26, 2007, 02:01:52 pm

Well, it was good of Hindy to make a comment on our comments!  Not sure if I agree with his comment about no adverts last year, but I suppose playing the sponsors jingles doesn't count as advertising?Huh

I guess the reality is that some sort of advertising/sponsorship is needed to pay for the service, so we must accept it, it doesn't bother me that much anyway.

If the revised race info segment is as good as it could be and covers all of the field, then most of us would be happy I would have thought, I know that I only listen to RLM to find out what is going on in the race, especially if I have been away from the track for a while, and want to catch up on whats happening to my fave teams/cars/drivers.

Trouble with only announcing the top 5 in each class is that if your favourite car or team isn’t in the top 5 you won’t have a clue what is going on!  And a lot of us follow the smaller teams.  With 55 starters you are immediately ignoring 35 cars! More than half the field, I know that they won’t all survive the full distance, but for the first few hours at least they will get ignored.  The top 5 in LMP1 is going to be the 3 Audi’s and Two Pugs (Until 1 or more hits trouble), so if like me you are a Rollcentre fan then you won’t know where they are unless you can get to a timing screen.

Personally I’d rather see a full rundown of each class but at different times,  say on the hour for LMP1, ¼ past the hour for LMP2, ½ past the hour for GT1 and ¼ to the hour for GT2, that way everything gets covered and if you are interested in a team then you know what time to tune in and listen (presupposing you’re not listening for the full 24hrs that is!)
674  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Aston Martin sold to DR and Consortium on: March 13, 2007, 02:11:35 pm
Indeed there was an AM F1 car, the DBR4, it was built when front engined F1 cars were still around, but got shelved as David Brown wanted to win LM, by the time he had acheived that goal F1 had moved on and the DBR4 was hopelessly outclassed in the few races it did.

There may be one at Donington, but there has also been one on track on and off for the past few years.

As an aside, David Richards is having a bit of a David Brown spell himself!  Trying to win at LM and (part)owning AML, next he'll be moving into tractors.....

First proper race for me of the year is the 24th too .....  Britcars at Silverstone, ok they are only 2 hour races, but it's sort of endurance!
