Title: Jan Lammers and Bentley
Post by: Rhino on December 01, 2003, 12:15:29 pm
What small part did Jan Lammers play in Bentleys Victory this year?
I'm working away at the moment so can't give the answer till next weekend.

Andy Wallace ? Not really... but Jan Lammers held off the Audis during the first few laps so that the Bentleys could get well ahead.  ;D

The Bentley carried the 'Jan Lammers racing product drink pilot'
A handy little gizmo where each driver had his own drink bottle which he plugged into the dispenser, so they could each have there own flavour drinks.

Not sure about this, but I read somewhere else that the two Bentley's did not loose the pace too much and dod not take a traditional teamformation in the last laps of the race, because the team was aware that Lammers and Pescarolo were still fighting for sixth place till the checkered flag.

bubbah ( who's still dissapointed that the race didn't last one more lap  :()

I thought it was because Guy Smith didnt want to back off too much in case he slipped up and the other Bentley didnt want to go another lap down.

I heard it is that Bentley were basically told not to by the ACO in case it ruined the cracking battle for 5th/6th/7th between the Gunnar Jeannette Panoz, the Lammers Dome and the Gounon Courage. Also there is a rule now regarding the time allowed for the last lap to prevent the unbelievably long drawn out maxxing of TV exposure that Audi orchestrated a year or two back.

Also, remember the GT class battle that was ruined by the formation Audis back in 2000?
