Don't you have to be associated with Mercedes somehow or know someone associated with Mercedes to get thier grandstand?  ...or did I hear that wrong?

Don't think so, went to the 1000Km a few years ago and with the start we sat on the Mercedes grandstand.

At the start I'll probably be at the Mercedes Grandstand, afterwards walking 'round the track.  If you see someone with a 300mm Canon lens with Le Mans and Sebring stickers on the hood, it's me ...

You don't win Le Mans - you outlast it.

Amazing pictures... how did you do the panning shots at the Ford corner ? I tried it there for about ten minutes but got the fence on every picture.

I don't care - I'm a racing driver and I'm here to win, not to finish third.

I used a 70-200 with 1,4 convertor, and tried several spots (close to the fence or within a small distance).  I also had some pictures with the fence in them, but most didn't.  It also depends on your shutterspeed; if set it to 1/200 of lower you shouldn't have much fence in your pictures.
