The worst kept secret in ALMS is now confirmed. Acura will step up to P1 next year with 2 teams (De Ferran and Highcroft) and remain in P2 with one confirmed team (Fernandez) and the hope of another team tbc. AGR have not been mentioned and I assume they will return to single seaters.

No mention was made about the type of car, open or closed, the power plant petrol or other.

The key point is that Honda must have done a deal to ensure that P1 cars are faster over a race distance than a P2, so I expect without the posibility of overall race wins the semi works Penske Porshe team will not run in 09 unless it steps up to P1 with is very unlikey.

The Acura P2 car is already able to win races so why have Acura felt the need to step up to P1, is there another team waiting in the wings?

Le mans was not mentioned and I somehow doubt 09 will be on the agenda unless its a small effort with the P2, I see the P1 very much as a US program for the moment.

Good news from Honda, Audi will have their hands full (as if they don't already).  The AGR Acura squad has been in a bit of a state of disarray for most of the season, so their withdrawl seems entirely likely,  I think they got stretched too thin running concurrent Indycar and ALMS programs.  As for Porsche?  Agreed, my guess is that the Penske team ceases operations, but on the other hand, we could see more Syders in privateer hands in P2.  Most importantly, the health of the series looks strong, TV ratings and gate attendance have been terrific.  The big manufacturers will look at what people are paying attention to, hence Honda's decisions.  Would still like to see some more competitors in GT1 though.

Testing pics of the P1 Acura.  So Acura vs. Peugeot is what ALMS fans have to look forward to.  Better than Audi vs. Audi, I suppose.   Roll Eyes
