Post by: Kev_mk3 on July 27, 2003, 01:32:11 pm
Maybe a little early but what the hell it's getting closer already..............

90 days to go until the start of race, so seemed about the right time to start this years thread.

Out Portsmouth-St Malo for the first time ever. Wednesday 7th June 20:15 Brittany Ferries

Returning to Houx with Nopanic, DFH, Jules and Steve others as per usual.

Back  Caen/Ouistreham-Portsmouth Sunday 11th June 23:00 Brittany Ferries

Just myself and a mate in my Leon Cupra this year but 2 friends from Germany are meeting us at the track.

Started to get excited now!

Out Portsmouth-St Malo for the first time ever. Wednesday 7th June 20:15 Brittany Ferries

If you are on the St Malo night boat, think about the proper restaurant rather than the self service.

It's pretty good, buffet starters, served main, buffet desserts ( to die for if you like desserts ) and buffet cheese.
About £30 pp, IIRC last year.
It's a great start to the holiday, the most civilised method of crossing the Channel, rolls into St Malo at 08.15, so you can get a decent night's sleep.

6 of us this year - in theory.  One applied for his passport renewal this time last year and didn’t get it in time. Unbelievably they still haven’t got it!  So have just cancelled that application and reapplied.  If they  can’t come their son won’t either so we’ll be 4.

4 (or 2) going out Newhaven Dieppe Tuesday night back on Eurotunnel Sunday evening. 2 in camper going Dover Calais out Wednesday am back Monday.  Staying on Epinettes, no grandstand this year. Invested the saving in one of these https://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/robens-observer-chair-D3112121.html

Later start for us this year after normally being there for scrutineering (and the Test Day last year).  Going across from Pompey to Ouistreham on Monday morning, returning on the Tuesday afternoon after.  Three of us initially in two cars, one other will join us on the Wednesday.  No camping for us, we'll be in the hotel we've used since 2010.  We'll be sitting at the top of T17.

Expecting the height of ACO luxury on Hippodrome after my trip from Brum via Poole and Cherbourg on the 8th.

And by way of an evening in The Normandy Alpes for dinner and kip with a return overnight from Caen to Pompey on the 12th

Staying with The-Messy-Houx-Annexers as always, I cannot wait

Five Zarses this year under the aegis of Camp Robbo. We have our own “Harry and Meghan” flying in from the USA to grace us with their presence. I’m wondering if our friend the Gimp my show up too? Whatever we’re staying on the hippo-campus or whatever it’s called, we’re deeply suspicious of the ACO but we will see. Travelling out Tuesday 11.00am Newhaven to Dieppe, returning on the midnight express on Monday. Look out for the Rover and three idiots.

I had real exciting news about my journey down, popped in to mention it, walked quietly away.

Didn't want to disturb you all, see.

I broke the Midget on the way to Poole and thought "that's that" only to have the Houx Annexe-Messers discover ways and means to get me there, so I went by bus.

Train to London with hand baggage, bus to Paris and Le Mans ditto, ride home with Garyfrogeye afterwards to the train home from Euston

Enjoyed it so much it has set clockwork ticking...

Somewhat belated, but we had to suffer the 'joys' of BSJ this year.

To be fair, it wasn't the absolute sh!t show we expected it to be, but that's mainly because we arrived early, went where we wanted to go, not where they tried to put us, nicked the power from the bogs, claimed an 'acceptable' amount of space more than we were allotted (emergency parking) and after some 'expressive' words in the local lingo to the site marking-out wallahs, we were generally left alone.

Looking forwards to getting back to the green and pleasant, less stressful pastures of Epinettes next year.
