Title: Phew!
Post by: Andy Zarse on November 05, 2003, 05:51:52 pm
You will all no doubt be greatly relieved to hear I'm back safe and sound.

To all those who are off to Le Mans on Friday I'd like to say have a great time. But I'm not going to. Suffice to say, sod off, I hope it pisses down the whole time on your miserable heads. Anyway I have something much more interesting to go to: the next door neighbours 60th birthday dinner party. They don't drink. Christ Alive.

Oh and happy birthday to Steve Brown for the weekend. Another one joins the old gits club.

Welcome back Andy, there's been frantic postings in your absence to overhaul your YabGod total. None of the Liverpool boys will be there this weekend either mores the pity

Sorry to confess it to you but...

... this week-end will be a lovely week-end in Le Mans and especially a sunny weekend.

Be sure we'll have a drink for you, to replace the next door one's you won't drink.  ;D

Welcome back Mr. Z!!

I tried in vain to overhaul your total but ran out of ideas (and got busy with the day job!).

I shall of course be thinking of you whilst I am in Madrid celebrating another Old Git's 40th and can assure you that this is one birthday party where there will be a few pints had. Enjoy the rugger!!

 ;D

BTW, this came up on ebay in your absence - was sorely tempted!!!

And it is only literally just a few miles from where I live - boy was I tempted!!!

It was only the thought of the look on Mrs. R's face as it arrived and the impending burning of everything dear to me that prevented me from hitting the "bid" button!!

 ;D

Andy,
Thanks very much.  My wife appears to have the whole weekend planned out, with all sorts of subterfuge and whispering going on.  I'm standing by to stand by.

To all who are at the 1000k - have a great time - bring me back some tartiflete.

To all you rugby fans - my wife and I arrived back in the UK last weekend after 4 weeks in Australia - we didn't get to see any world cup rugby tho - we just did loads of scuba diving on the Barrier Reef.
We did, however, see the Indy 300 at Surfers Paradise / Gold Coast and witnessed the rain / hail stones part of the way through the race.  God that track is narrow!

I've been a bit quiet on CA for a week as it's taken that long to catch up with all the posts I've missed.

Cheers to you all

Hey Steve, maybe, just maybe, it involves the hire of a private jet and a party of 12 flying you to the 1000kms?

Hope springs eternal Baldrick!

Good to see ya back Steve, hope Oz was a blast. I saw CART racing at Surfers ten odd years ago, you're right, it very narrow. BTW the Commer on ebay is a beauty and no mistake and at 400 quid has to be considered a bargain. But I am baffled as to why it appears to have a marine radar dome on it's roof.

Rick man, you should have done it! What woman could resisit the decor in that van? If she's like mine, she will not be able to help herself and will run you up new curtains and covers in no time. Then it's off to Homebase and out with the paint brush... they can't resist it. Great for family day's out too, provided the kids don't mind thinking the old man's a bit of a wierdo! . I know where there are plenty of other Commers for sale if you feel tempted. Or should I put temptation in your path?

Finally (and not wishing to name drop) but whilst I was away I met a sometime racing driver called Alex Portman, who told me about his misadventures in Le Mans including the hopeless Esprit V8 and also how hard it was to drive a Viper with a broken wrist. Seems LM gets everywhere!

Do you know a Commer registered in France? because I don't believe it possible to import one legally...  :-\

Rick man, you should have done it!

When I saw it was only in Peterborough I thought it must be meant to be!! But managed to resist. If I didn't have the 806 I would have the excuse for a "Le Mans mobile" plus what with the boys weekend away starting tomorrow, my "honey-do" vouchers have all been spent!!

Why would it be illegal to import a Commer? It meets all requirements on safety and emissions. (Well nearly.)

After all, Holland is awash with the ruddy things. Don't believe me? Then try   www.commer.org

Have a good trip to Madrid, give my regards to the gorgeous Infanta (King's daughter) if you see her. Don't suppose you'll see too much of the inside of the Prado.

Not illegal, but considering French road regulations, it will be almost impossible.

It will be easier and cheaper to rent an apartment in UK to have a British adress rather tahn import it and register with French license plates....

If I didn't have the 806

Rick, surely they would have taken the Peugeot in part exchange ?  ;)

I did ask funnily enough, but he wanted two dozen croque monsieur  and a couple of boxes of tartiflette too and I didn't think I would be able to get them to him in time!

Cheers Andy - had a crackin' time!! And it seems the weather was much better in Madrid than Le Mans!!  ;)
