Next month sees the 65th anniversary of Operation Market Garden, Arnhem will be commemorating the event between 17th and 20th September, more info here http://airborne-herdenkingen.nl/en/
Try and get over if possible, not many of the old lags left. Very moving at the dedications and particularly the airbourne drops on saturday.

Seconded - the 65ths for WW2 will be the last time, sadly, for many in terms of a milestoine event.

I had the good fortune to escort my parents to the 60th anniversary of the Liberation and spent time in Arnhem, Apeldoorn and Wageningen. As Canadians, albeit born in the Netherlands, we were treated with the utmost courtesy and hospitality. These celebrations are indeed remarkable and it may well be the last opportunity to salute the vets.

Hmmm, that might be a cool thing to do that weekend. I have friends visiting from stateside, would be nice to show them some history!

Pat, considering going there also with my kids, lets work something out together.
Been there in 1984 myself as a little kid. Damn it how time flies.

I actually was there for the reinactment in 1995. If I remember correctly there was this big concert in Arnhem under the bridge, with Roger Waters! I was inlisted and we had to march up and down the bridge behind a pack of Leopard tanks, it was really something else.
I know the museum in Overloon, it was just across the street from a good friend of mine living in the village. Very worth while to visit!
