Bad day I'm afraid.
Scenario: January - trade in the Volvo for a shiny new Merc C220d. Ooh, lovely. Had it two weeks and it broke down and, much to the glee of my neighbours, had to be towed away on a breakdown truck.
So, they lend me a petrol version. "Hope I don't put diesel in it" I remember thinking to myself.
Due to ongoing problems with fuel injectors on this model the garage had my car for 4 weeks waiting for parts.
So, yesterday, I finally pick up my repaired and fabulously valeted car and what do I do this sfternoon?
Fill the b*****d with f*****g unleaded!!!!!!
Somebody beam me up!

We did that with our volvo, petrol put into the deisel tank.
Checked with insurance, as we thought we had breakdown coverage, told wehad not, but they would cover the accident of wrong fuel being used.
So they paid for it all and got a 5 year warrenty as well. Oh we had to pay excess so we did not loose are no claims bonus. So cost us £250. Which I did not think was too bad.
Might be worth checking with insurance company.
Checked with insurance, as we thought we had breakdown coverage, told wehad not, but they would cover the accident of wrong fuel being used.
So they paid for it all and got a 5 year warrenty as well. Oh we had to pay excess so we did not loose are no claims bonus. So cost us £250. Which I did not think was too bad.
Might be worth checking with insurance company.

Been there, done that :-\ :'(
Put a tankful of petrol into my diesel Audi a month ago. Then found I had left my cell phone where I had just come from (several miles away). A kindly gent gave me a lift to a small local garage - they brought the car back on a recovery truck, drained it all and got it going on diesel again. All for the princely sum of £60 (excluding the cost of the 'new' diesel), so I think I did pretty well. Did not have to pay for the disposal of the petrol as he said he could mix it with some old engine oil and burn it in his space-heater furnace.
Pretty cheap, but still cost me over £100 when the tankful of petrol is included.

Not quite so dreadful as the branch of Intermarche near Agen which at the weekend put diesel in the unleaded bunker, thus doing this to around a hundred people before anybody realised. ::)
But cr*p luck, Lord S. Easy to do when you've got used to a petrol engine for a bit.

I realised as I removed the pump handle so didn't start it. (You should've seen the look on Lady Steve's face when she realised we were walking home!!)
Anyway the lad in the garage was a star - he drained most of it but M Benz told him he'd have to remove the back seat to remove the tank sender so that he could siphon out the remainder.
I feared the worst but at 5.30 he rang and said it was all done and he'd put £20 of diesel in it for me.
The bill?
£86.
Fair enough I thought.
I realised as I removed the pump handle so didn't start it. (You should've seen the look on Lady Steve's face when she realised we were walking home!!)

That's exactly what my wife said so, in the interests of domestic harmony, I went to do just that only to find that the cap is bright red with big white letters that say D I E S E L.

Very reasonable I reckon - helped no doubt by the fact that you had not started it - that would have been a real pain and meant draining out the whole fuel system ..... Oh well, could have been much worse.

Luckily the wife won't drive my car because it's a 5-speed. If she did, I'm sure it would have been filled with gas by now.
Given the rarity of diesel passenger cars over here, it's not unusual for someone to walk up while I'm fueling and let me know I'm putting diesel in my car and that it's now ruined. ::)

I've had to stop myself a few times from filling up with the wrong fuel as i've had a variety of petrol and diesel motors over the years :-\

Given the rarity of diesel passenger cars over here, it's not unusual for someone to walk up while I'm fueling and let me know I'm putting diesel in my car and that it's now ruined. ::)
