The new audi is to be a closed top. Other ideas are 4 rear tyres.
Seems a bit pointless but they must have a reason.
Looks pretty good.

New Audi R18 has a lid as expected, but did not expect it to be quite so ugly. Didn't know it would be possible to out-ugly the Pugs.
-
i like it

I like it too.

Looks nice, wonder if will stay stealth black for the race, be fun trying to get pics of that at night at Le Mans.
Want to go to Spa now to see it before hand now. :)
-
Looks like it's going to do what it "says on the tin" to me.
Looks great....shame it is still runnimg a diesel engine tho :)
-
oh look they dragged out bentley and resprayed it.

Even I can see it looks nothing like the Bentley - unless the Bentley ate all the pies!
I don't dislike it tho - looks kinda mean - I wouldn't want to see it come up in my rear view mirror.

And just reading the 4th page on Serviceability
'The R18 is also said to demand more from its pit crew with four big, heavy wheels and tires. Studies—supposedly done by Audi Sport’s sports doctors—determined that with the R18’s tire changers now required to remove and reinstall items that weigh 23 kilos (50 pounds) each in the same time they were able to change the tow big/two small tires on the R15s, the tire changers will need to add between six and eight kilos of muscle mass.'
Thats definitley the far end of a fart or from a womens perspective, hunky tyre changers. ;D ;D

Bob, U beat me to it, just seen that posted by Lee on facebook and was about to copy it onto here as well. LMAO ! ;D

Remember that song from the '80's by 'The Passions' -

I thought that was the whole reason Acura never raced at Le Mans in LMP1? the drag from the larger than normal front tyres would mean they lost too much speed on the straights. can the engine overcome that or would they make it up in the corners ???
Looks ok hate the fin though. always have always will :( what formula did they appear 1st in Europe was it formula BMW or something like that? to me it looks like a stretched Gumpert Apollo
-
Dorsal fins have been tried many times before, kremer used one on their grp c car as did gerbhart (spl)
Not sure which formula first mandated them, bmw sounds as likely as anyone.
The twin rear wheels is an odd one, audi have history using them many years ago, remember the auto unions? Maybe they they are doing it as a stunt and come race day it will have been dropped.

Keep reading this, all I can read is all wheels are the same size, not twin rear wheels as per (http://bp1.blogger.com/_FoXyvaPSnVk/SG59Xyn-qBI/AAAAAAAAwmE/T6xgFq38QnM/s400/Toyota_Batmobile.jpg)

I'm starting to like it ... but I hate the fin !
Whoever is responsible for that shoud be shot ... twice !

That would make far more sense!

Shame they don't still do the running start, they could begin the race by shouting "To the Batmobile"
-
LOL
Dx

Aside from the fact that the audi has a roof, there's more than a hint of pig ugly Lister Storm LMP about the rest of it....

First outing at Spa in May, not going to Sebring apparently.

No? Maybe they will be there but wait until the race is over and the fans have gone home before they test. Same as they did this year.
-
I personally think that is absolutely beautiful.
This is what we've been missing - open cockpit prototypes are F1 cars with bigger bodies - closed cockpits? - well that's back into Sportscar world. NICE!

lame!
i hope they change their minds on that one. ive been waiting to see audi drop a closed top sportscar on us but this one is shocking looking. im sure ill grow to like it more but its so brutal! im also kind of sad that i never got to see the r15 race. i love that car. is there any word of teams running r15's privately this year?

Hi Bob,
Scheduled to run the 15 at Sebring.

Unfortunately, between modern saftey regulations, and contemporary aeodynamic theories, most single-seaters and prototypes are butt-ugly.
