to start the list of us not going again this year :'(
My training has ulimately ruined any chance of going this year and puting a ring on the good ladies finger in october has pretty much ruled out 2012 and 2013 as well :-\
Heres to a scorcher in 2014 then gents ;D
Mike

Pathetic >:(

You really need to get your priorities straight there mike!

Very much so. Save up for a surprise holiday for her in June ;)
Oh, and remember, no bonking in September - otherwise you can forget all about 2014 as well! :o
-
Include october to, cause it might arrive early!!! ;D
-
At least we don't have too worry who will put the lights out for the next few years then. >:D

So, I can see that getting married in October may rule out this year what with saving money for the wedding and all that. I fail to see how it can also rule out 2012 and 2013. They sound like the words of a man who expects to be under thumbed. Start as you mean to go on I say. Tell her she can have her Mum to visit that weekend every year and that they can be alone to catch up on girlie talk stuff.
-
I should explain mr Bob. We got engaged last october and the date is set for september 2013 so between now and then there will be a lot of saving to be done for the things she Has to have.
-
Mike, don't listen to the miserable sods, congratulations to you !!

And what about those things that you have to have?

Just get another credit card, and a ticket.
I got married on credit, before it was popular, and it didn't do me any ... oh, perhaps you're right

[ Tell her she can have her Mum to visit that weekend every year
Dear god, Bob, she might have a mother like mine....
Get a grip, Mike. Bring her over and let her see the best of France while you get p*ss*d with the rest of us, or suggest she spend the week doing what she wants to. I'm not sure that I hold out much hope for this union.... >:D

I agree, you're not even married yet and your favourite pastime has been knocked on the head. I'm afraid its downhill all the way from now on Mike.

Congratulations Mike, just remember to keep your "gun in your holster" between September and October, one of my gang has missed 2 Lm's in recent years due to you know what ;) In fact they will probably never go again due to number 2's birthday falling over the race weekend :-\

Well i am missing this year due to 1 Final trip to the Nurburgring before a house purchase takes all my money!
-
Next you will be getting married in June (around the 2nd week of the month) and won't be able to holster the gun around September >:D ;D

Light weight. I distinctly recall you saying you would be attending this year.

well, if the press reports are correct there maybe no more "ringer days" so you need to hedge your bets Young Kev

Pathetic, for the second time this thread... your folks live near by ffs!
-
Mike, Kev......... Get a grip the both of you, just tell them that you are going on a budget to convince her show her the shoddy tent and a collection of newspapers to sleep on.
That should be enough..... >:D
-
I don't get any of this. Motor racing is part of me - it's part of what I am. Any bloke who didn't like it wouldn't stand a cats chance in Hades. Likewise, I can't imagine that Mr T would be more fun to live with if I stopped him doing what he enjoys. Why should anybody have to make excuses or make stuff up? Tell her it's what you always do in the middle of June and if she'd like to come along or do something else which she wants to on her own then fine. No relationship was ever improved by one partner trying to change the other.
But then what do I know? We've only lasted 37 years.
-
Well said Termie!
-
Yeah - but surely this is 99% in jest?
Men love to pretend they are henpecked and their wives don't understand them.... etc etc. ;D
F
P.S. I do think there might be a slight blurring of the lines between a genuine love of motorsport and wanting to go on the beer with the lads for a week tho!

Yes, I'm sure you're right (on all three counts!) It's still a lame excuse for not coming to the race and/or p*ss up though!

Isn't this what you do Fran?
Remember for a week or so in the year you are a '...LB'
And I will admit that you are not just there because you love doing dishes!

I shouldnt have to defend myself but I will anyway....
This year I am missing it because of training, for those who dont know I am currently an apprentice track engineer. This means this year and the next 2 years I will be on substantialy lower wages than I have had in previous years.
Le Mans is a luxury that I would not be able to justify having wedding or no wedding and to be perfectly honest my priorities for the next few years lie far beyond a motor race in france which will be there to be enjoyed many years after I have ticked a few more important things off my to do list.
Call it a sence of humour failure if you want but getting engaged and planning my wedding has been the single greatest thing that I have ever done and I am gladly puting my next Le Mans visit on hold on my own accord, not because I am under the thumb or being "changed" by my fiance!!!
-
Mike,
Don't rise to the bait !!
you will be back in a couple of years when most of us will be to old to go !!

hell we got a live one here :)
Worry not - I did the same, missed 2009, in order to get married two weeks before, and go on honeymoon.
I can't tell you this wasn't without some degree of planning though. As it happens, my wedding anniversary will never fall on Le-Mans weekend, will never take place during football season, and if by some miracle, Reading manage to get themselves into the Final of the FA cup (which is about as likely as hell freezing over) then we already have an aggreement, that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and that one wedding anniversary can be sacrificed. Now who on earth would have planned it like that? >:D
Motorsport is a big part of my life also, and is not a part of my wifes - if I had to give up a couple of LM trips to get married, I would have - however the spade and patio option was also considered at one point.
I would say though, having missed 2009, I won't be missing it again - it damn near killed me having to listen to the race on the radio feed, and get telephone calls at god only knows what time, explaining how much fun everyone was having......
-
Sorry if I came over rather agressively, Mike. Of course your priorities are your affair, not anyone else's. :) It wasn't a response aimed specifically at you but every year when the "who's not going" thread starts, at least one chap blames the woman in his life for "stopping" him from coming! I know, of course I do, that there are more important things in life than motor sport, especially at your age..... ;)
-
Thank god I donīt have these issues anymore, my GF understands my need to go to the races, hell she even likes it and is joining us this year. Go get married mike, get the job you are studying for, but make sure you come back to le mans in the end and maybe just bring her along, she might just like it.
-
Ill be blunt its down to a family disagreement i wont be going this year. Not going into details but the second part of the trip (going to the ring) was booked and paid for end of last year as Lemans wasn't going to cost sod all as Andy pointed out the parents live in the area.
Now due to the disagreement i cant afford to splash out on camping, tickets etc the cost is not justifiable, so balls to it im going to the ring and that will do as its all paid for.
-

Kev me old mucker.... a few words of advice.
Whilst fully sympathising with family fall outs n all that, I dont think you will find that lack of funds is going to be an acceptable excuse, no matter what the back story. (If I can use the expression "back story" with BigH around).

Yes, every year Kev comes up with some amazing excuses for not attending. It started off with the old "the dog's ill" routine and the excuses have since progressed in incredulity. Last year I think he said he couldn't go because his car was haunted by a German ghost called Tarquin he'd picked up at The 'ring. Or something.
PS Hope you're on the mend Gordon!

Thanks for the kind comments folks, I will know on Tuesday what the score is. Had a big scare in December but I think that now the tumours are dormant, or stable so if so may not have to go back on chemo.
Fingers crossed for Tue !!! I'll be at Le Mans whatever the result though !!
