Took a "serious pill" this morning it seems, so apologies for this one in advance!
Year please and what is the modern day connection between the entrant of the car in the foreground and the Steve McQueen film "Le Mans"?
;D
(http://www.maisonblanche.co.uk/ca141003.jpg)
-
Rick, that is so easy as to be ridiculous!
Catherine Zeta Jones.
-
I think it's safe to say that Andy hasn't taken a serious pill today!!
:D
-
I think it's safe to say that Andy hasn't taken a serious pill today!!
:D
Does he ever? ;D
-
I think it's safe to say that Andy hasn't taken a serious pill today!!
:D
Are you telling me I'm wrong? If so, I don't believe you! It's true I tell you!
-
Of course you are Andy, now sit down and we'll plug it in..... ;D

Can I watch? this sounds highly educational ::)
-
Look! It's quite straightforward!
The car in the piccy is a Ford Capri 3100Rs and by the look of it, is in Martini livery. The Capri has starred in many famous films, TV series, i.e. The Professionals, Minder, Sweeny etc. But it is Only Fools and Horses to which I refer. In the early series Delboy used to drink Martini shandies. He also drove, in the later series, a Capri Ghia. David Jason was also in the Darling Buds of May.
2. A great friend of McQueen was Kirk Douglas, who apart from covering himself in saturated technicolour in Spartacus, found time to father a son called Michael.
3. Michael Douglas married Catherine Z-J, who a co starred in the Darling Buds with the Capri driving, Martini drinking, David Jason.
Therefore THE f**k*ng ANSWER IS CATHERINE ZETA BLOODY JONES!!!
Jesus! What could be more simple than that! Perfick!
-
Connection ! Connection ?
It's Robbo!! in his 2 litre diesel Focus!! You can just make out AndyZ in the back seat with the electrodes on his temples!
Oh well, maybe not. Rickmeoleminutaemeister I can't even tell what sort of car it is, is it an Opel Manta? Did they ever race at LM? Anthing to do with Solar Productions.
Can I phone a tart?
H
-
H It cannot a Manta. Did you know that Opel have never ever entered a car at Le Mans?
Supplementary question: Which other major manufacturer has never been represented?
And the answer, for once, is not Catherine Zeta Jones.
-
What can I say Andy, but that is taking lateral thinking to new levels/extremes!! ;D
I'm afraid to say after all that wonderful Zarseness that it is not the answer I am looking for (and neither is a knuckle sandwich before you suggest one!).
It is not a Capri either, so therefore Delboy theory blown out of the water in the first instance.
And not Martini colours either...... See, I've taken a severe beating with the serious stick today!
Not an Opel Manta H I'm afraid. But please feel free to phone a tart anyway! ;)
-
Supplementary question: Which other major manufacturer has never been represented?
Skoda? ;D
-
The car is a chevy Monza, the year was 76, and the driver was M Keyser, who wrote a A French Kiss with death. The book of the film.
I think the monza is aclose relative to an opel monza?
-
Very impressive Nordic!! Really thought this would get take a little more time!! Good work fella!
Michael Keyser was also the entrant in case anyone quibbles with the original question.
Now time for a bit of namedropping on my part. Know Michael quite well and did some of the photo research for the book, even got a credit in it, as did Dave "Club Arnage" Davies!
"... For his assistance accumulating many of the vintage photographs, I thank Rick Wilson, Mr. Maison Blanche."
There, my fifteen minutes is well and truly up!
;D
-
I told you there was a Michael in it! Do I get half a point?
-
I think the monza is aclose relative to an opel monza?
I think the Opel Monza or Vauxhall Royale as it was known in the UK (a great old beast BTW) was a close relative of the Vauxhall Carlton and Opel (Rekord?) large RWD 4 door saloon.
-
How about half a pint instead? !! ;D (Although note that I don't specify what the fluid is!!)
-

Embarrasingly, I used to sell these old smokers in a previous life.
The Royale Coupe was the Vauxhall version of the Opel Monza and the Royale Saloon was mirrored by the Opel Senator. Vauxhalls had 2.8 six and Opels 3.0 six. For the time, they were loaded, but waaay too expensive.
An Opel Monza and a Chevy Monza have nothing in common, but the name.
-
I found it hard to belive that the Monza qualifed in 14th postion, about only 5secs slower than DeCadnets DFV Lola that finished 3rd.
-
That's easy. The Monza was based on a Mini. Eh Matt?
-

(In true Vic & Bob mode:) You just couldn't let it lie! ;D
-
What's on the end of the stick, Rick?
-
Marzipan .....
She'll be after your nougat, she's a marzipan digger! Uncle Pete stinks of marzipan.
-
Supplementary question: Which other major manufacturer has never been represented?
Skoda? ;D
No, amazingly there has been a Skoda! Entered in 1950, it was a "Sport" model and it didn't make the finish, abandoning with what the bible describes simply as "rod".
-

Volvo?? Also, do you count Lexus as a "major" manufacturer??
-
It cant be Lexus as they arte Toyota with an expensive badge , i think its SAAB, or Trabant ??
Now that would be a true race for a MINI,
Big H , sorry couldnt have been my Focus ,it died early last night about 2215hours with Ford Focus Disease ?? I now have a Fiesta as replacement.
-
Saab ran at Le Mans back in the 50's I believe.
So I'll stick with Volvo
-

Saab did indeed run in the 50s, two cars in fact were entered (neither finished) in 1959.
As for Volvo, this is a moot point as although they have never entered per se as a factory, but they have been represented as a Volvo powered Tiga attempted to qualify (unsuccessfully) back in 1987.
;D
-
Rolls Royce?
-
OK, how about Hummer?? ;D
-
Actually, how about Citroen??
-
Actually, how about Citroen??
Nope there was a Citroen in 1932 .. who asked this question anyway????
-
Supplementary question: Which other major manufacturer has never been represented?
Mr Zarce is guilty .
Although i am sticking ith trabant. And SISU from Russia.
-
Daewoo and Hyundai , Holden
Bristol ( they do make a few cars every year )
-
Trabbi as a MAJOR manufacturer ????
According to the october issue of Classic Cars, it is, but according to me, it's not...
... but Seat never run !!! ;)
-
I still think that as the Volvo didn't actually race that's a valid answer too.
How about Suzuki??
-
...couldnt have been my Focus ,it died early last night about 2215hours with Ford Focus Disease ??
Sorry to hear that. What happened ? Could it be Subaru ?
-
HGB - Ford are aware there are problems with the Focus but havent yet repaired all o the million they sold , so they waait unti lthe warranty claim comes in .
As the cars not mine , i dont care .
How - It just stopped in the middle of a round about for no reason and the lights on the dashboard flashed like a 1980's wham disco .
-
Err, Robbo me ole Pompey playmate...
"It just stopped in the middle of a round about for no reason "
May I be so bold......
"I drive a Focus Diesel (1.8tdci - 90 bhp ) at work and can wooop anycar i race with , its aboutobservation , 4 wheel drift , tyres at the max , and the foot flat down ."
Shall I get me coat?
H
-
Thanks for jumping on that grenade H. I didn't want to be too out of sorts there but I've been biting my lip for the last 10 minutes staying away from responding to that post.
-
H youve pulled.
Yep i have become a plonker, but its a typical Ford . When it works.........
-
Robbo are you in the Plod? They drive like that round here.
I have had all sorts of cars, Alfa, Austin, BM, Commer, Rover, Honda, Subaru, Reenault Ciroen VW you name it but none of the has ever broken down like that. I have thrashed the arses off them all. But I have never ever had a Ford. Says something bout Henrys products I guess.
-
Supplementary question: Which other major manufacturer has never been represented?
Mr Zarce is guilty .
Catherine Xeta Jones?
-
Daffodils ?
-
After much thought, the only major car maker I can think of never to enter a car, other than provide the odd engine is VW.
-
Marzipan .....
She'll be after your nougat, she's a marzipan digger! Uncle Pete stinks of marzipan.
Classic Donald and Davy Stott!
BTW Rick, marzipan's private.
-
Seeing as I posed the suuplementary question, I think it only fair to tell you that I was going to say Volvo.
Never knew that someone had used a volvo engine in another chassis tho. Why on earth???
But yes, Nordic, what about VW? Rick?
-
It most certainly is Andy! And Uncle Pete stinks of marzipan! :-X
-
(High pitched voice) You leave my nougat alone!
-
(High pitched voice) You leave my nougat alone!
DAVY STOTT!! You're an outrageous man tonight!! What's the matter, don't you like nitrogen?
Back in the early 90s, the missus, myself and my sis 'n' bro-in law all dressed up as the Stotts at Le Mans one year. The locals had no idea and just put us down as mad Brits as usual, but some German people got most offended and thought we were taking the p*ss, with our Stotty/Hitleresque moustaches! It must have been 1992 actually thinking about it because the "slaphead" also served as part of my Gareth Chilcott get up at that year's Pilkington Cup Final.
Back to the matter in hand (oo-er missus), VW have never had a chassis entered either officially or privateerly, just the various engines over the years. Remember that humungous hospitality tower in the paddock a few years back, the year the 675 Reynards were fast but fragile? VW made sure they were rebadged as "Lehmann" thereafter and have been very successful since!!!! Oh how the PR dept. must be so pleased with themselves!!!!
-
volvo engine in another chassis tho. Why on earth???
It was a team of two Swedish drivers (remember Slim Borgudd and his brief F1 moments?) and one American. Guess they wanted to be Team Sweden or summat! THe Volvo engine was late being delivered and the team struggled witht the installation in time. Missed the Wednesday sessions but made it out for Thursday which was wet. Nevertheless, the stewardsw ere OK with Borgudd's time relative to the other cars but the two other drivers were never given enough time to set a representative time, so it was goodnight from him and goodnight from them too.
The Tiga Volvo was never heard of again........
-
So if they didn't set a representative time, they weren't represented!! :D
I claim the Croque Monsieur for the right answer!! ;D
-
I don't really, I just needed to get my 501st post up to get the fifth car!! ;D ;D
-
Congratulations JP. Any idea what happens after 5?
-
Five cars ? Still a long way for me.
-
Congratulations JP. Any idea what happens after 5?
All the under 500 owe us a beer !! :P
-
Will you buy us a beer when we finally catch up? ;D

No but if you don't reach the 500, it's you who buy me one !!! :P
Une challenge n'est pas?
-
Excellent idea Gilles :)
Now we just have to start the beer debate again about what type pf beer??
-
Real ale for me please ;D
-
Fairly certain I won't be there in NOv, but it certainly feels good to be a God (as opposed to a Gode).
-
A God in a Commer would be a funny sight at LM in November. ;)
-
A God in a Commer? It is simply not plausible.
A Gode mind you, that's different...
-
No but if you don't reach the 500, it's you who buy me one !!! :P
Une challenge n'est pas?
hte challenge of the most stupid and useless posting ??? :P
-
All the under 500 owe us a beer !! :P
Do we have a deadline Gilles?
Nearly there!!! ;D

I raise my objection ;D That's definately too early, I never manage to get five cars until then.
-
The 1000 kms week-end .....
Challenge accepted! ;D
-
How can you do it ??
As a moderator you've stars not cars !!!!
-
Ah, yes, but only on this forum, all the others I am your average punter!! That will be my goal.
;D
-
Challenge , for who .
I may have to start saving for the drinks , i am hundreds behind , or months or postings.
So whats the order 10 bottles of Home Brew ?
-
OK well this is post 491, isn't it about this point in "scoring" that everyone starts posting meaningless one word postings to up theri score?
-
Well, you won't catch me doing that just for the glory of reaching 500.
-
Oh no, not me. I have much more moral fibre than that. It is more important for me to be true to myself than cheat.
-
Isn't that what they taught us at school? The only person you cheat is yourself?
-
Well not me, I will reach the magic target without resorting to such cheap trickery! (I got chucked by some bird to one of their songs once .. ironically titled "I want you to want me"!!!).
-
Bugger! 496, can't keep this up (not for the first time). 500 next week then ........
