Thought we could spare a thought for Robert, who as I'm sure everyone knows suffered very serious injuries in a rally accident in Italy earlier this week, here's hoping for a speedy recovery. Looks like a returning Raikkonen, or Nick Heidfeld are the likely replacement for what is likely to be a full season with Lotus Renault.

Heard this morning that he was out of Intensive Care, which is good news.

freak accident.... hope he recovers fully

For one reason or another I spend a lot of time these days amongst people who have suffered the most appalling of injuries and it never ceases to amaze me how far technology and medicine combine these days to get people back into "full working order" as it were. Amazing what these medics can do.

Best of luck to him, the pictures in the paper this week of the car "speared" by the length of Armco were not pretty.

Agreed, when I read that the car had been pierced by the armco, one realizes how lucky he is to be in one peice...literally! Those of us who are old enough, remember what happened to Francois Cevert and Peter Revson when their F1 cars got tangled up in armco.

Seems like he's staying in Italy for his recovery. Horrible crash with the armco, he's lucky to be alive.
It also makes you think about the way rally evolved in the past years. Cars are getting smaller and are (in my opinion) less safe then they were before. Having a crash with those smaller cars like a Ford Fiesta, Pug 207 or Skoda Fabia is much more dangerous than crashing in a Ford Focus, Citroën C4, Subaru Impreza ... My fear is that we'll have more of those horrifying crashes this year, hopefully not with a deadly ending. Just another proof that downsizing isn't always better.
I really hope to see Kubica back in F1, this season or the next, still believe he's a future world champion.
