Title: Could you help me regarding Le Mans 04? Post by: MikeH on October 25, 2003, 02:47:00 am A bunch of us went to Le Mans this year for the first time, and as motor racing nuts we had an awesome time. The only thing was we went on an organised coach tour that left Dover late Thursday night/early friday morning, spent friday in Paris, then drove to Le Mans on Saturday morning. With heav traffic in the Le Mans area, plus stopping at the supermarket, then putting up our tents in the car park, we didn't arrive trackside till 3pm-ish. We got a decent view of the start etc., and plenty of time to explore the track during the rest of the day, evening, night etc. but would have liked to got there earlier.
We are going again in 2004, but would like to get there earlier, on the Thursday for example, and camp there. However, with about 8 or so of us from around the country meeting up and going, it's going to be difficult, as hardly any of us drive. I was wondering if any of you experienced guys could help us out, if you know any coach tours, or anything that get there mid-week time, or any way we can get there fairly easily bearing in mind we will need to take bags, tents etc. with us. Thanks for your help. Mike Title: Re:Could you help me regarding Le Mans 04? Post by: powermite on October 25, 2003, 09:15:14 am Mike,
It reallynot that easy if you dont drive.Even if one of you drives you could hire a minibus and then camp. Alternatively, why not go by train. There are a few people on here who could advise you on that. Speaking from many years experience,I would say that thursday is the latest you should arrive, then that'll let you see the thursday qual plus the driver's parade in the town centre on the friday. cheers PM Title: Re:Could you help me regarding Le Mans 04? Post by: Chef on October 25, 2003, 02:42:40 pm we really dont get a lot of coaches, if any, going through the port of portsmouth over the le mans weekend. probably too expensive for the coach companies. i would suggest getting a minibus if one of you drives. its about £500 for a weeks hire of a 9 seater and £500 for the crossing. it works out about a ton each. we did it this year for 8 of us and it turned out fine.

We paid £235 for the mini bus hire from Wednesday - Monday, and £194 for the ferry crossing on a five day return tarif. Split between 6 or 7 of us. Title: Re:Could you help me regarding Le Mans 04? Did you tell the hore company you were going to France? We looked into it a few years ago and got some pretty good prices until we said "France", then things got scarey... I arranged the bus and ferry and YES i told them it was to go to france , and they would only loan for a week at a time extra insurance , breakdown cover . Also 3 of the group in the van had never been before , and we took a night boat , so 2 cabins each way , it all adds up . We paid for high car space but the van just got under the platforms , did we get a refund .........NO . |
