LM is lots of things but pretty it ain't! If it helps us to know who's where in the race then I say, great - good to see the proposal is to go that low down the scoring - these top ten boards they have elsewhere are just u/s for long distance, multi-class racing.
-
Fully agree to Termie - Neither the pit-building nor anything else they constructed will ever get a price for excellent architecture - so that tower won't make it any worse. And any additional information about the race standings is highly appreciated. May I suggest to use the class colors for the numbers when showing positions?

I see there are rather more new things in the other pics in that release than just a scoring tower.
I assume that most of it is fanciful for the moment but it looks quite interesting. (Pr*t.)Just so long as whatever else they build they put lifts in so I can get higher up and see over the catch fencing....PS, Werner, I stole your idea and put it in my Facebook response! Hope you'll forgive me.. :-[

Did Le Mans not have a timing tower before?
In the 70's maybe?
-
A good idea for all the reasons already given... and if its higher than the Audi tower in the Village - all the better!
:)

?? The other pics are of Indianapolis.

A good idea. How about some 'portable' smaller versions positioned elsewhere around the circuit too - positioned alongside the various giant screens perhaps..?
-
Yes and no... There was a big timing display, but it was horizontal rather than vertical (sponsored by Esso if I recall).

Those three pics are from IMS, the top one with the Conti tire is from the Grand-Am test a couple weeks ago in preparation for next Friday's 3 hour race on the combined oval-road course at the speedway. Not sure how something as large as the one at IMS would look at Le Mans. From my memory of the tribunes at LM, the stands are not that towering, and a scoring tower like that might look a bit out of proportion to the structures around it. They do have some value though, there are similar scoring towers at Daytona, and they're especially visible at night. However they do get a bit blurry as the race goes along...oh crap, that's from the beer consumption.

Not a bad idea at all. They've got one at Circuit de Catalunya, Nürburgring ... always handy to know who's where.
