I love the way that they quote him with the American spelling of Litre. It always annoys me to see it as "Liter" which to me reads as lighter.

I agree. It is only the septics that can't cope with words ending in 're' like metre and litre. The rest of the world seem to manage it. Unfortunately 'kilometer' and 'liter' have become so common here in the UK already that the end result is inevitable.
