The Danish Automobile Sports Union sets up memorial foundation for deceased driver Allan Simonsen
On 22 June 2013, the Danish driver Allan Simonsen tragically died during the 24 hour race at Le Mans in
France. He was 34 years old.
Following countless requests from motorsport fans in Denmark and abroad, the board of directors in the
Danish Automobile Sports Union (DASU) decided on 26 June 2013 to initiate the foundation of Allan
Simonsen’s memorial fund and decided that all contributions should go to Allan’s surviving fiancée, Carina
Lundbye Hansen and their one year old daughter Mie-Mai Lundbye Simonsen. Donations will be tax free for
the recipients according to Danish tax legislation.
Anyone that wishes to honor the memory of Allan Simonsen and consider his surviving fiancée and daughter
are welcome to make a donation to Allan Simonsen’s memorial foundation. Donations can be made on the
following account number in the Danish bank, Jyske Bank A/S: IBAN DK1350780001117416, SWIFT
(BIC-address): JYBADKKK.
Donations can be made until 31 December 2013. DASU will hand over the donated amounts to Allan
Simonsen’s fiancée Carina Lundbye Hansen at a ceremony in Copenhagen held on 22 January 2014.
The board of directors and president of the Danish Automobile Sports Union have made the following
statement in connection with the establishment of Allan Simonsen’s memorial foundation: “It is with great
honor that DASU supports the memory of Allan Simonsen. We have closely followed his career all the way
back from the karting years and we are convinced that Allan had the talent to even greater successes. We
therefore have put great emphasis in establishing his memorial foundation.
Mr. Jan Struve, the owner of the Young Driver Team, which Allan Simonsen raced for at Le Mans has made
the following statement: “In these difficult times, I am very pleased that we are able through the memorial
foundation to support Allan’s surviving fiancée and child. The great number of condolences that we have
received from all over the world clearly shows the great respect and recognition for Allan both as a race
driver and an individual.
Allan Simonsen’s memorial will take place on Tuesday, 2 July 2013 at 3 pm from Odense Cathedral,
Klosterparken 2, Odense.

Now that's just plain wrong showing pictures of grieving family and friends, surely none of us would want that intrusion at a close family members funeral?

I know what you are saying, but i think that the media was invited by the family. There has been a Lotte of coverage in this paper involving the family, but also making the not motorsportinterested people aware of the fund that has been started. I do not like the Photos of the family but like the fotos from the church.
A lot of danes that has raced Allan even from his kart days atended.

I know what you are saying, but i think that the media was invited by the family. There has been a Lotte of coverage in this paper involving the family, but also making the not motorsportinterested people aware of the fund that has been started. I do not like the Photos of the family but like the fotos from the church.
A lot of danes that has raced Allan even from his kart days atended.

We met, and had a long chat with, some people at the weekend who were there and to say the actions of some of the media were disappointing would be a major understatement. :(
