Title: Porsche Rennsport Reunion
Post by: Kristof on September 28, 2015, 10:23:17 am
After WEC in Austin, I travelled to Monterey for Porsche Rennsport Reunion V.

What an event !!!! Amazing amount of cars on and off track, Porsche legends, factory drivers ... too much to see in 3 (long) days.

Report here :

More pictures to follow later this week.

Next up is Petit LM at Road Atlanta. Still no confirmation on credentials there, covering full seasons of WEC and ELMS apparantly isn't enough for our IMSA "friends" to hand out an accreditation  ::).

Must have been bloody marvellous.  Motorsport porn at its best.

Looks like the reunion was a blast Kristof.  Hope you get the credentials sorted, and have a great time at Road Atlanta as well.  I'm not at all happy about having to miss the Petit this year, it's always my favorite race of the year that we attend.  The Tudor series is a hot mess, but for me the Road Atlanta experience makes up for it.

Rennsport Reunion was awesome, never seen so many (exclusive) porsches together on and off the track.  Great track to shoot at also, still missed a few good spots though but wandered out a few times without the camera just to stroll around.

No credentials at Petit unfortunately (saves me time not having to write about it).  Walked most of it yesterday, and have to admit it's a great track.  Fast & slow corners, the elevation changes ... Should be able to get some good shots, lots of opportunities & low fencing.  Just wonder how messy it's going to be tomorrow, parking & camping already full of mud. Should be fun to get out after the race  ;D

More pictures from Rennsport Reunion to follow next week !

Hi Kristof,
Hope things go okay at the Petit. Georgia, like most of the eastern US is socked in with heavy rain.  The weather forecast for the weekend is pretty crappy, and I hope you don't run into a fiasco like we had a few years ago where only about three hours of the race was actually run.  The Petit usually has lovely weather, but the short straw was drawn this year.  Stay dry!

Race got flagged after almost 8 hours, track conditions were atrocious to drive in.  Reminded me to Spa 24H a few years ago but even worse.
After half way, the race was red flagged for about an hour.  It got back on again with 3,5 hours to go, but conditions never got any better.  When darkness started to settle in, they flagged it.  Probably the right decision, we got more safety cars than actual race hours.  Visibility must have been close to zero, and the track couldn't hold the water. They tried to blow the water away with jet blasters, it just streamed back on to the track. When they were racing though, it was awesome, especially in GT.

These have to be some of the worst conditions I've ever seen to race in.  It never really stopped racing since this morning, and the water was just flooding down the track. Racing in the wet is usually my favourite moment to take pictures, today I just put my gear aside at a certain point.  Didn't want to risk it in these conditions.

Hope it will be better tomorrow late afternoon and evening, got tickets for Foo Fighters in Atlanta.

Hi Kristof,
Watched the start, then recorded the rest. Got home from the wedding reception and started watching from about five hours out.  Looked brutal, and hate to see that because the Petit is such a special event. Don't let this put you off Kristof, I think this may be only the second, or third wet Petit.  Usually on a sunny, autumn Georgia day it's ridiculous fun. We can thank hurricane Joaquin for these shits & giggles, it's pouring clear up here in Ohio.
Enjoy the Foo's, we've seen them several times here in Cincy, your hearing will be compromised for a few days afterwards, but you'll be grinning :)
