Yes I know it sounds a stupid question and before anyone answers France I KNOW THAT.
But they have regions like our counties and wondered which one le mans is in.
Anyone know?

Chris, from MS Encarta
Le Mans, town in northern France, capital of the Sarthe Department on the River Sarthe. It is an important rail junction and industrial town, with factories producing motor vehicles, agricutural and rail machinery, chemicals, textiles, and processed food. Historical landmarks include the cathedral of St Julien (begun 11th century) and the church of Notre Dame de la Couture (begun 10th century). The University of Maine (1969) is situated here. A world famous 24-hour motor race held annually here takes its name from Le Mans.
Founded in pre-Roman times, Le Mans was captured by William the Conqueror in 1063. It later suffered many sieges during the Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) between England and France. The English king Henry II was born here. The Germans occupied the city during the Franco-Prussian War and again during World War II. Population (1990) 148,465.

France is divided into 22 Regions, each containing several Departments.
The Sarthe is Department Number 72 within the Pays de la Loire Region, which includes the Vendee among others. The region is bordered by Basse-Normandie, Bretagne, Centre and Poitou-Charentes Regions, and the Atlantic.
End of geography lesson!!

OK Chris, spill the beans, why the fluck do you want to know that? All you need to know is that the car knows it's own way to MB!!

As I hope does the driver ???
-
Is your memory fading that fast already? Age is a terrible thing, and your not even a pensioner yet.
-
Fluckin chance would be a fine thing, but there is always a chance of Easter 2004 ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
-
I know the car will find its way there somehow, even if the driver doesnt know the way!
I Was wondering as have an address of someone in france but wasn't clear were exactly it was as only had the name of the road and region. But somebody had told me they thought it was near Le Mans.
But the question has been answered now so thakyou all.

i think and i;m sure gilles will correct me if i'm wrong' but the last 2 digits of the froggie rego declare where the car is from. i.e 1234AB72 would be from the le mans region. pointless info i know.
-
you are dead right there mate :)
French Number plates do indeed state in which Department the car is registered.
If you are interested me and Mr RS2 are Department 35
His scooter however - see various posts on this topic - is still Jersey registered and all Jersey plates start with a J (funnily enough)
The plot thickens

and the pair of...
... letters are chronologiccaly attribuated.
Maybe your example of 1234 AB 72 is a car registered in the early 50's.
My '63 panhard is 766 GJ 72 and so first registered in december 63
You hardly choose your licence plate, it's an ordinal and chronological automatic attribution.
When you change your car of department (example if you move or if the new seller is not living in the same department), you'll need to have a new number.
It explain why so much classic cars don't have any more their original licence plates (mine has got them)
But from 2007 all cars in EU will need to change their plate and every car will have one and only number, no matter it has been sold in an another foreign country within the EU.
Coming to this point: how much for a little resort on the southern coast, almost just to have a UK adress and being able to own artisanal cars ??

Having just had two pints of Marston's Pedigree your post makes perfect sense
-
I wondered what was wrong with you
Your PM to me nearly made no sense
The pool idea is coming on swimingly (hee hee)
Why,! MrRS2 is in charge of said area of campsite (SWIMING) so don't expect anything less than perfection. (he was Peter Perfect in a former life where as I am only Penelope Pitstop)
AS is usually the case in the vicinity of the swinimg pool - STRICTLY NO PETTING, NO RUNNING, NO BOMBING, ..........
What else was on those signs at the Baths ( I am thinking Balliol Road or Queens Drive here, the ones with the changing rooms around the side of the pool!)
