Title: Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: smokie on May 14, 2004, 11:55:41 pm Anyone in or around Berkshire want to join JP Chenet and myself for a planning session?
We'll decide date and venue once we have an idea of numbers. However, I think Wokingham is pretty central isn't it? ;) Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Rhino on May 14, 2004, 11:57:55 pm As though you need any planning!
Expect the only planning to be what your having next round. :) Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Perdu on May 15, 2004, 12:15:53 am I think you'ld be right Rhino, but it is better for them to plan the next round and the next rather than have them stumble into the next one by accident...
Wish I lived close enough, Smokie, I need to know how much more work I have to do on the belly before next month! And of course any excuse for a few bevvies is good enough. ;) Bill Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Lawnmower Man on May 15, 2004, 12:39:04 am Wokingham is good enough for me. :-) But parking is not brilliant there.
My personal preferance would be Reading. Mind you most of my plans are in place. Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: wishy on May 15, 2004, 08:31:20 am I think I may just come along to find out how......."true professionals" plan for LM
When are you thinking of meeting? Wishy Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Abs on May 15, 2004, 10:40:38 am Reading would be good for our crowd as this is where we usually meet up.
Can't do anything until the end of the month though so I guess I'm out and will just have to make up for it in June!! Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Abs on May 15, 2004, 01:31:04 pm Reading would be good for our crowd as this is where we usually meet up. Can't do anything until the end of the month though so I guess I'm out and will just have to make up for it in June!! Could make the Friday 28th, we usually go to O'Neils near the station and then onto curry house opposite the station. JP I'll catch up with you when I'm back to see what is happening and if I have missed, if I have maybe we can catch up in Bstoke?? Abs Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: jpchenet on May 15, 2004, 03:18:36 pm 28th sounds good for me too. I'll hopefully have the first batch of polos ready for then too so we can distribute them on the night.
Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: smokie on May 15, 2004, 05:15:34 pm OK 28th it is, somewhere in Reading (not Wokingham?). Someone suggest a venue - I don't know the pubs much in Reading.
Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Lawnmower Man on May 15, 2004, 05:25:32 pm Can I suggest The Back of Beyond on Kings Road Reading? It's Wheatherspoons pub no music and pleanty of space. You can park on Kings Road normaly though I don't normaly go there on a Friday even so you can always park in the Queens St Car Park and walk. Or you can run the risk in the Home Base Car Park. Here is a handy map http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=472122&y=173361&z=0&sv=RG1+3BY&st=2&tl=Postcode+RG1+3BY&pc=RG1+3BY&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf
t. Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: smokie on May 16, 2004, 04:28:40 pm There - a venue too!
Shall we say 8:30? Club t shirts? Or too risky, or even risque, for a Friday night in Reading? Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: TonyT on May 16, 2004, 06:23:53 pm shame you can't make it they day before. I go on holiday for a week that day in preparation for the event the following.
Maybe next time. Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Canada Phil on May 17, 2004, 01:17:40 am Hi Smokie, Damn you can't please everyone ::). I don't get to reading until the 31st May :'( So will not be ablr tyo attend planning meeting. Will just wing it like I usually do ;D

Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: smokie on May 26, 2004, 09:45:03 pm Bump!! :o :o
Just a reminder to all in and around Berkshire - drinkies this FRIDAY 28 May at 8:30 at the Back of Beyond in Reading. There is a link to a map somewhere, it isn't far from Kwik Fit. CA t shirts not essential....or are they? Not sure if I am going to reading as I might be cycle racing on saturday and drinking the night before is never a good idea.
Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: smokie on May 27, 2004, 12:05:09 am Robbo - 104-108 Kings Road, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 3BY
rcutler - you have that the wrong way round - should say Not sure if I am going cycle racing on saturday as I am drinking on Friday and cycling the next day is never a good idea. Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Brad Zarse on May 27, 2004, 12:15:40 am Dammit - we live in Wokingham - would have been easy as!!!
I'm not sure if i can make it (keep the missus happy before disapearring for the best part of a week) I will try and send my dad though - and if im around - i will pop in for a swift one, and so that i dont feel like a lemon when arriving at Le-mans and saying "ello, Im snoring rhinos son" :D at 22 yrs old, would I be the youngest person attending ??? Back of beyond is a good choice - but if you want real ale - try the hobgoblin as a second pub.....goooood stuff - it may look like a hole, but the atmosphere and beer makes up for it - look out for my Reading Vs Crystal Palace stub above the door :) Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: smokie on May 27, 2004, 12:18:14 am I live in Wokingham too...3 Frogs is my nearest, but I walked out the other night in a huff cos it took 5 mins to serve me...and I'm a regular!!!
Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Brad Zarse on May 27, 2004, 12:21:54 am its a small world Robbo - but should i keep quiet about the fact that that pub is now a "hungry horse"???
you must live near St.Crispins The weirdest part is that we have probably crossed paths many times in our lives, and never even known it!!! I think you might be a copper (??) which worries me somewhat......if you see a Mazda 323f flying down the road, its not me, its someone else, but you shouldnt follow them or prosecute them :D I guess the dog and duck or the thatched cottage are our locals, but i dont drink in either of those - in fact - i dont drink much at all - which is a worry actually - maybe i should come to Reading just for the training???!!!??? Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Brad Zarse on May 27, 2004, 12:22:44 am when i said Robbo - I clearly meant Smokie.....
Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: smokie on May 27, 2004, 12:24:26 am ...who clearly isn't a copper...
Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Brad Zarse on May 27, 2004, 12:26:52 am its 23:25 - im young, and im tired............. this does not bode well for le-mans..........two weeks of drinking lager and jack daniels should do the trick........

Such a small world. I work just down the road from The Three Frogs in Amen Corner. But we don't "make" Bacon sandwiches. :) If you see a Black Mundano with Le Mans sickers on the boot lid and a BJ camping pass in the windshield thats me. Anyway see you Friday night. I don't have a CA T-shirt but I'll find some thing that will indicate I'm there for the Pre-LM meet. (if only I could still get in to my 1983 LM shirt.:-) t. You could try doing some work so that your company still pays you and we can still go to Le-Mans?? :D Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Abs on May 27, 2004, 12:52:14 pm Used to work in Wokingham, down Fishponds Road. Tried most of the pubs over time, mostly Dukes Head, other one by the train station and the one by the entrance of the oneway system from Bracknell end.
Didn't Wokingham have the most pubs per square mile at some point in time?? 12 Days and counting Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Snoring Rhino on May 27, 2004, 01:04:00 pm >>Heck - still 13 days to go - how will l last! Certainly did, something like 110 in the district, a few less these days most of the quiant old one got bought up by the breweries and loss their charicter (?) aka The Three Frogs, lost money, so got shut down!!Didn't Wokingham have the most pubs per square mile at some point in time?? 12 Days and counting Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: smokie on May 27, 2004, 08:08:14 pm I'm in Bean Oak...

Yeahi am what smokie isnt. good guess. I used to work in Slough and made it to Reading and District a few times. I dont chase many cars on my Pro Active push bike anymore. Its a bit tiring. Berkshire Boys, may turn up for a swift coke or something as i am on two wheels and will be tired. Does the pub do food ?? Oh , i am a little older than you, a spirtely 27. Add your details to the Background thread. Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: rcutler on May 27, 2004, 11:43:24 pm I would guess they do food but there are plenty of places to eat around the area.
Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: jpchenet on May 28, 2004, 12:02:52 am There's an excellent Thai place about 5 mins from the pub. I'll probably be nipping in there before meeting everyone at 8.30. What time will you be around Robbo??
Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Lawnmower Man on May 28, 2004, 07:44:03 am It's a J.D.Weatherspoons they do do food. It's all fast food type stuff. Nachos, Burgers Chicken wrap type stuff. More edible than Micky D
and reasonalbly priced too. The big plus is the Fine selection of Ales at 1.49 a pint (they're haveing a Beer Festival this week. Now is that good timeing?) t. Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: smokie on May 28, 2004, 08:25:49 am (they're haveing a Beat Festival this week. Now is that good timeing?) t. Not sure, depends how many beatniks it attracts... Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Brad Zarse on May 28, 2004, 09:46:38 am The Beer festival in Weatherspoons is an extension of the Reading Beer festival held some two to three weeks ago - i think they just compbine the dregs of all the barrels and sell it as a new brew!!
If you are talking about the thai place just above the Hexagon, I would HIGHLY recommend it - LOVELY food, great service, and a nice atmosphere. If you fancy Indian, the Gulshan which is just up from the station is excellent too. Other than that - if you want fish - Loch Fine is round the corner (a bit of a trek) Italian - Ninos is very good Posh food that looks funny - the forum which is by the oracle is meant to be good. If you cant find something to eat out of this lot - then you are too fussy :) Brad Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Barry on May 28, 2004, 06:19:21 pm Regret unable to make southern planning meeting tonight :'( :'( :'(,
oppotunity to earn serious brownie points available, so have to pass. Hopefully see some of you a Andy's tomorrow, if not at LM :). P.S. Hope you get out of Reading alive ;D Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: Steve Pyro on May 28, 2004, 07:00:27 pm I hope you have a jolly good evening tonight for your "planning evening" (yeah right ;) ) Have one (or three) for me :D Title: Re:Berkshire pre-LM planning Post by: smokie on May 28, 2004, 07:05:44 pm Thanks Steve, you paying? ;)
